"What did I get from my call to Bath Fitter in Boise, Idaho? An excellent experience and a wonderful new bathtub! Tony went way above and beyond to replace my 60+ year-old cast-iron tub with a new, beautiful surround and tub. When he finished (yes, in just ONE day,) he cleaned up the room even better than it had been before he started. He also noticed a slight problem with my toilet and fixed it for me! I couldn't ask for a better experience! I recommend Bath Fitter for anyone."

"Theron and Vince are some of the most reliable, efficient plumbers I know. They got me onto their schedule right away, showed up to give me an estimate looking very professional, and preformed excellent, clean work. I thought all plumbing companies were the same until I called Marathon Plumbing. I will be recommending Marathon to everyone I know from here on out. "Kevin Moore, the installer, explained installation process, cleaning products to use and what not to use. We were involved in seat, shelf and grab bar placements. He explained the curing time of the sealant. He covered our flooring with protective mats, vacuumed and cleaned up after the work was done. He was friendly and answered our questions. Great job!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s possible to cap a gas line yourself if you’re no longer using it or are simply going out of town for an extended period of time. It’s essential to follow the steps on properly capping a gas line yourself. If you’re uncomfortable with any of the steps, you may want to bring in a natural gas plumber for added reassurance.

The time it takes to fix a burst pipe depends on the location and severity of the problem. A minor burst can be cleared up in a day. But if more than one pipe burst or cracked, or the source of the burst and leak is more complex, it can take a week or longer for a licensed local plumber to fix it.

The most practical and common setup is a toilet that connects with the sewer line or a septic tank. However, it is possible to install a toilet without a sewer line, and this can be particularly helpful in basements with no or outdated plumbing. An increasingly popular option is an environmentally friendly composting toilet. Other waterless options include incinerating or dry flush toilets, which pull the waste into an airtight container.

A pipe burst will cause a portion of the water flowing into your home to escape through the damaged area, but some water is still likely to flow to your plumbing fixtures. If you’re noticing reduced water pressure or the slow flow of water from your sinks, you might have a burst pipe on your hands, especially if the weather is particularly cold outside. When in doubt, call in a plumber to inspect your system and check for leaks.

Basement toilets don’t always need a pump. However, it is the most common setup because plumbing systems use gravity to move waste away from the home. Basement toilets often sit below the home’s main sewage system, and installing a sewage ejector pump pushes the wastewater and sewage up to the main sewer line. Alternatively, you can use an upflush or macerator toilet that breaks down the waste and pushes it straight to the main sewer line rather than via a sewer line from the bathroom.
