"The location of the appliance is in a home located north of Rathdrum. While the technician tried to be helpful over the phone, he wouldn t drive to our place to check out the problem. He recommended other repair businesses, who also tried to help over the phone, but a $150 service call fee was more than we could deal with. While it s not their fault we live where we do, anyone looking for their services who lives in the backwoods of Idaho ought to know this."

"My project included replacing 3 basement window, installation of under cabinet range hood and repair holes in basement room ceiling. I was so happy with the results. The windows are such an improvement and Eric provided a good option to replace the old windows economically while not sacrificing quality. He spent time to help me pick out the right range hood to fit the space. The installation turned out so well. The repair of the ceiling was so good that you canâ t tell where the holes were. I would definitely use Eric again. I also appreciate his professionalism in communicating with me."

"My request was for a dishwasher repair. Jon responded right away. I then decided to buy a new dishwasher and asked if he was interested in installing it, which he did. Due to some issues beyond his control the installation took a lot longer than expected. He stayed with the project, solved all the issues, and then stayed with his quoted price. Would recommend Jon for any handyman project. Buster C. Hayden, Idaho"

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

With its breathability and flexibility, lime plaster is among the most durable of all plaster types. It's also fire-resistant and has a proven track record, as people have been using it for thousands of years.

However, all plaster types will last for many years with the right care and treatment. Proper preparation and installation will also help ensure your plaster walls look great for as long as possible.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

Professionals diagnose underlying causes, such as structural shifts or moisture problems, and apply appropriate solutions like reinforcement, patching, or sealing. These measures restore wall integrity and prevent recurrence, ensuring long-term stability.

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

It depends on the construction of your wall. Most handypeople can fix small holes in drywall. If your wall is plaster or brick, more significant damage may require a drywall contractor or a mason. Hiring a handyperson costs less than a more specialized type of contractor, but they’re not trained in all types of wall repairs.
