Customers say: Quality work

"I am an architect building my personal residence. Oakmont is great to work with! Joe is experienced in many areas. He has a great attitude and really works hard. He is constructing a number of features on the house, including the 1,000 SF covered deck. I highly recommend Oakmont."

"I came in with a hole in the watertank for my RV. The hole was beside the fitting. They were able to repair this and I didn't have to replace the whole thing. The quality of work was excellent, and the amount of time it took was remarkable. I felt they really cared about my problem and had it taken care of immediately. I definitely will have them do some fabrication for me again."

"This job was to replace an old bathtub with a walk-in shower. I highly recommend them for your next project. The crew is professional and responsible. Clean up was exceptional. You will not be disappointed with the workmanship. The shower is lovely and price was reasonable. I would choose them again for any project."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Traditionally, bungalows are single-story homes, although having a half or partial story on top of the first floor is common. While adding a second story to a bungalow is certainly possible, the home would no longer be considered a bungalow by the strictest definition.

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

While some highly experienced homeowners can frame a house independently, it is not advisable. You will need ample carpentry experience, a team of helpers, and professionals to sign off on your work to meet local building codes. For the safest outcome, we recommend buying or building a house with the guidance of professionals.

While it is possible to build a wooden carport yourself, especially if you are skilled in carpentry, professional construction is recommended. Professionals ensure structural integrity, proper anchoring, correct alignment, and the use of quality materials for a stable and durable result.
