"Bart knows what he is doing. He located the problem after some troubleshooting which was impressive, considering the number of areas the problem could have been. Once he did that, he made the necessary repairs. After the repairs, he checked some switches on the panel with breakers built in for testing each respective switch, and found two out of the 3 switches did not test and were defective. He just could have packed up and gone home. It was late at night, and he had had a long day. But he went the extra mile, tested these switches, and advised I get all three changed out. He immediately told me these switches were a little pricey, but he recommended they be changed. I asked him to order them, and let me know when they were in. Bart is the real deal. His cost per hour is EXTREMELY reasonable; much more so than one local big electrical repair company in Idaho Falls I used to call. He will get all of my business in the future."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Any light bulbs made from toxic materials, such as CFL bulbs and fluorescent light tubes, should not be thrown in the garbage. These bulbs need to be sent to hazardous waste collection sites run by your municipality or sent through a specialized mail-back recycling program. Earth911 allows you to search and find a recycling location near you.

Wiring or installing a light the wrong way can lead to potentially dangerous scenarios, including shock and even electrical fires. If you’re the least bit uncertain whether you’ve wired something correctly, the best and safest approach is to call in a professional electrician to handle the installation for you.

Many homes have a 200-amp service, which requires a 2-inch electrical meter riser. Larger homes or homes that require more energy for several appliances and devices may have a 400-amp service. For 400-amp service, opt for a 4-inch electrical meter riser.

Well pumps need power to run, so they can’t function without electricity. If your power shuts off, there can sometimes be enough pressure in the water tank to allow for a lucky flush or a bit of tap water—but this won’t last long. It’s a good idea to have a backup generator or an alternative power source like solar if you’re worried about losing power.

Christmas lights typically do not need to be grounded like electrical circuits in your home do. However, it's crucial to use outdoor outlets equipped with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) for added safety. GFCIs can help protect against electrical shocks and are recommended for outdoor electrical connections when using Christmas lights.
