"We chose Bath Planet to update our 20-year old bathtub and shower combo and replace it with a large walk-in shower. (Been wanting to do this for years!) The sales rep was honest and helpful with suggestions to make it look good and fit our budget. The installers were knowledgeable, friendly, clean and got it all done in a day. Couldn’t be more pleased with the quality of materials and workmanship! Thank you Bath Planet!"

"Five Star Bath Solutions (FSBS) replaced our non-functioning basement bathroom whirlpool tub with a new whirlpool tub + shower wall replacement. FSBS was very easy to work with, from the initial in-home meeting to the completion of the installation. We were kept up-to-date on start date and other pertinent details and pre-install queries were answered promptly. The replacement/instillation itself was completed efficiently, the crew arrived when promised, the crew was very respectful of our property + home and we received a detailed walk-through of the completed project. We would strongly recommend FSBS for anyone considering a similar project in the future. Excellent service from start to finish. Liz R. + Luke S."

Customers say: True professional

"The Scott's are a son & father team with a combined experience of 40 years. I had read the reviews posted on Angie's List and they were the first business I contacted by e-mail. In response to my e-mail Andy Scott called me directly and we set up a time for him to come look at the repairs needed. He came out the following day at the agreed upon time and gave me both a verbal estimate for the job followed up by an invoice via e-mail with the jobs specifically itemized. Andy also informed me that he and his father could complete the job in two days. The repair work was done on one day and then allowed to dry (set up). Then the sanding and paint work was completed on the second day. The Scott's did an excellent job. They were very professional and took the time to put down tarps on the wooded & carpeted floor as well as plastic over the bathroom vanity. They also used a wet/dry vacuum to get any loose materials that had come off the ceiling all cleaned up.They also left a small industrial fan to speed the drying time. The Scott's got a good match on the paint color and they not only painted the repair area, but the entire ceiling & walls. It all came out looking really nice. If I have any small criticism (more of a suggestion really), it would be to use NO or low VOC paint so there aren't any toxic fumes. Since my bedroom is right across from the small bathroom, I did not realize how strong the fumes would be or that I would have an allergic reaction (i.e., sinus headache and sore throat) as a result. But to the Scott's credit, they did leave the window open to help the fumes escape. The only problem was my 81 year old father wanted the window closed because he was cold. While I did turn on my own personal fan, it didn't help that much. But overall it was an excellent job and a reasonable price. Andy Scott is a straight up guy who is very easy to talk to. I would definitely hire Andy & Roger Scott again for other indoor jobs."

"Hoss gave us a reasonable price and started work a few days later. We had a shallow bathtub, plastic surround, and old tiled walls and floor removed. He has a young, hard working crew. They installed a deep bathtub, tile surround and floor, new drywall and paint. They were fast efficient and cleaned up before leaving everyday. We love our new bathroom. We will hire them for other home improvement projects."

"We had Clear Choice Bath out to remodel our basement bathroom. Originally we were going to go with the company who did our upstairs bath but we were so impressed with the material so we choose them. Brandon was informative and to the point and clearly knew what he's doing in a bathroom since he does the work as well. Their Foreman Robert was prompt, very skilled in all aspects of the remodeling process, and a very good communicator. A couple days afterwards we noticed an issue and without a question they came back and resolved it. We really are happy with the finished result and the fact that they stand behind their work. Thank You Robert and Brandon!"

"I called on a Friday and they were able to send somebody on Monday morning. I'm not sure if it was because they contacted me through Homeadvisor or because I was hesitant to have them come out without even a ballpark price, but they waived the trip charge. I told them that I had a leaking shower faucet and expected that the cartridge just needed to be replaced. I received a phone call and text 40 minutes before the tech's arrival as promised. Jake showed up on time and offered to wear the booties everybody brings these days, but between the time he spent sitting in his van and then writing up a quote after glancing at the faucet, it was at least half an hour before I even had the quote. My choices were $412 for the cartridge or $700+ to replace at least the valve and maybe more and then repair drywall. I assume the quote was written this way to trigger the upsale, but I will be selling my home soon and the drywall that didn't even need to be removed for this repair is already being replaced as part of a separate repair project. I was surprised that he didn't bring shower cartridges on the van since it seems like a common repair, and I'd specifically told them that's what I needed. He was gone for over an hour to get one from the supply center. Once he returned, he turned off the water, then went back to the van for a bit. Once he started on the faucet, it took maybe half an hour to swap out the cartridge. When he was done, Jake had me sign a few times, then emailed me an invoice with no text describing the service performed, just the total. I told him I needed some explanation of what was done, and he re-sent it with a blurb explaining a Moen cartridge was replaced and has a one year warranty. About an hour after Jake left, I received a follow up phone call to confirm everything was completed to my satisfaction. I have no complaints about the work, everybody was pleasant enough to deal with, and I know they create their quotes straight from a pricebook, but 3 hours and $412 to complete a 30 minute repair that requires a part costing no more than $50 just seems excessive."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

A peeling bathtub is not a good thing. It’s a sign that the finish is coming off, and continued exposure to water and cleaning products can continue to damage the finish and eventually the underlying structure of the tub. What starts as a few chips or flakes can worsen into large chunks peeling off.

The plumbing industry has standardized the sizes for bathtub drains. They are 1 1/2 inches wide to fit all standard bathtubs from 14 to 26 inches deep. The standard sizing is to ensure that the drain fits into the P trap, a special part of your piping that prevents sewer water from bubbling up into your home (yuck).

Different bathtub materials have various advantages and disadvantages. Cast iron and copper are considered the most durable materials because they are dense and resistant to damage from scratches or dents. However, cast-iron tubs are heavy, expensive, and may not be suitable for upper floors. Copper offers unique benefits but requires regular chemical treatment to prevent a patina from forming, making cast iron a less maintenance-intensive option. Porcelain is a good second choice for durability. For those on a budget, acrylic is a popular option, though it is less durable.

Yes, you can remove a bathtub yourself if you have previous DIY experience and basic plumbing knowledge. You should have at least one other person help you if you approach this project as a DIY. However, hiring a plumber or bathroom remodeling pro can prevent accidental damage from demolition or water leakage.

Installing a clawfoot tub with a minimum of 6 inches of clearance from surrounding walls allows ample room for the faucet and pipework, makes cleaning easier, and reduces the chance of moisture being trapped between the tub and the walls. It might need to be closer if the faucet comes directly out of the wall.
