"My wife and I were very pleased with the professionalism, communication, and attention to detail of Paul and Ryan at Marathon Services.  I did a lot of research before choosing a contractor and was very pleased with my decision.
With the rainy weather this spring, we kept in contact about the start date and Marathon delivered as promised.  Paul and Ryan walked me through all the details of the roof replacement, including ventilation and some areas that would need extra special attention.  For example, the chimney on my house is placed in such a way that if the roof isn't properly done, it may cause problems, but they were very detailed in the amount of work they did in this area.  Ryan is a chimney expert, and his expertise came in handy for this job.
It was very apparent to me that Paul and Ryan really care about the quality of work they do and take pride in it.  They also care about the relationship with their customers, and did whatever was necessary to make sure that I have a quality roof for years to come.

"Beau was extremely responsive, professional, and an overall amazing contractor to work with. Being a military family, we found out last minute we would have to put our house up for sale and move. Beau ensured the job got done quickly (without skimping on quality) and in time to put our home up for sale. Both we and the buyers LOVE the result. We would definitely recommend Premier Painting for projects and will continue to use him in the future!"

"I purchased this deal and didn't realize that there was going to be so much extra cost and the deal wasn't going to cover everything that I needed. In fact the provider told me it would be about $5000 more on top of the $1000 credit."

"I can’t say enough good things about this company. I needed to get my stairs rebuilt as they were dangerous. They delivered. They were the fastest to get on the schedule, best price, and made very quick work of it. They also showed up when they said they would. Exceeded my expectations. Hire them. You will be pleased."

"Fred at One Stop Shop did an excellent job. He answered all of my questions, showed up on time, and was courteous and respectful. He was patient with my overly anxious, barking dog and priced matched my other previous quotes. He went above and beyond my needs and expectations and I will definitely recommend him to all of my family, friends and all business owners I know!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.
