"Needed to fence in my parents yard, so I reached out to 6 contractors for estimates. â Supreme fencing Hawaiiâ was one of the contractors that responded. From the start it was apparent that Zane (owner) of the company, took pride in what he did, he was very professional and knowledgeable. He was not the lowest quote, however he was willing to work with us knowing what are expectations were and our budget. He is very reasonable. He is a family owned and operated company, and as soon as we contracted him, we felt like we became a part of his â Ohanaâ . He, and his partner Zack, took good care of us, and did an amazing job on the fence. We felt like he went above and beyond to give us exactly what we needed. For instance, the contract wrote up for 3 gates, however on further inspection, Zane felt he could use the existing 2 gates and that would allow him to put support bars under the fence. Now thats the kind of people you want working for you, because they are looking to improve a job, use what they can and not add more cost to you. They have an amazing work ethics, communication is awesome, and was there when they said they be. Now days so hard to find in this industry. I would highly recommend â Supreme Fencing Hawaiiâ . You would not be disappointed!! My Family, Animals and Neighbors couldnâ t â Thankâ them enough for such a GREAT Job!!! Mahalo!!!!! Jamie Machinporrata Sent from my iPad"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

You should stain both sides of your fence to get the full benefits. Fences often fall along property lines, so you may want to save a buck by leaving your neighbor’s side in the dust. If you do that, all you get is a slightly better view. Moisture and UV rays can still sneak in through the side that’s unpainted or worn down and damage your fence. Rot and rust will spread, even if you can’t see it from your side of the lawn.

The bottom strand should sit between 12 to 15 inches from the ground. If you have a problem with small critters, you can aim for 8 inches. Three-strand fences should be 16 to 19 inches apart, four-strand fences should be 10 to 12 inches apart, and five-strand fences should be 8 and 10 inches apart.

There are many types of wood fencing that you can choose from. For split rail fencing, the most common wood types are cedar, pine, black locust, and chestnut. The best wood for you will depend on if you like the way a certain wood looks and the availability of the wood type in your area.

Most of the wood types you can find at your local home improvement store are good choices since they all have rot-resistant properties or are pressure-treated with pesticides. If none of the wood options speak to the look you’re going for, check out vinyl fencing.

A wrought iron fence is generally considered a worthwhile investment, provided the cost fits your budget and its characteristics meet your needs. While it is an expensive material, its exceptional durability and longevity mean you can save money over time by not having to replace it.

Key benefits include:

  • Durability and Security: Wrought iron is strong and provides excellent security for your home.

  • Longevity: With proper maintenance, it can last a lifetime or longer.

  • Aesthetics: It offers a classy, timeless, and elegant look that can boost your home's curb appeal and property value, especially when complementing brick or stone architecture.

However, it's important to note that wrought iron fencing does not offer much privacy. If professionally installed and maintained, it is a sound long-term investment.

The ideal distance between fence posts depends on several factors, including the terrain, the purpose of the fence, and the material used. For different types of fences, here are some general guidelines:

  • Wood and Metal Fences: Posts should be spaced between 5 and 8 feet apart.

  • Vinyl Fences: Spacing can be between 6 and 8 feet.

  • Chain-Link, Mesh, or Lattice Fences: Posts can be set anywhere from 4 to 25 feet apart, with 4-10 feet being common for chain-link.

  • Wire Fences: Spacing can be up to 12 feet apart.
