"JD replaced my kitchen countertops, sink, faucet and backsplash. High quality craftsmanship and service for a honest price. Very professional and personal attention, always responded to my queries quickly. Great suggestions on installation options, available choices of stones, hardware, and tiles. Installation was scheduled quickly and performed on schedule, and they included everything I needed to get the whole job done."

"Absolutely phenomenal! They sourced unique materials, specialty woods and recovered items. Built a custom floor. Performed all work themselves, slate and custom hardwood floors, plumbing, electric, painting, carpentry. Amazing! On time and we had to make some changes along the way. Adapatable and easy to work with. Great crew!"

"I cant say enough about Lee. I had another contractor tile my master bath and they cut the carpet too short to meet the new transition to the master bedroom (as well as another closet transition). The other contractor just nailed the carpet down and left (after hiding under tape telling me not to remove the tape for a few days). Once I figured out what happened, I searched Angies List to find someone to repair it. Lee came out the next day and told me he could fix it. He offered me a good price to go ahead and fix it while on site and based on the price and his reviews, I went ahead. He fixed both transitions perfectly. Additionally, he walked around and fixed some of the broken grout due to a poor job by my other contractor. When he left, the space looked like it was supposed to when the other contractor left. Looking back I wish I had known Lee before I hired someone else to do the tile work. I will be calling Lee for all my flooring needs going forward."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

Add a T-shaped spacer to each corner of a tile when placing it. You’ll want to nudge the tiles closer together so the spacers are touching each corner. When you’re done installing your tile, you can remove each spacer, wash them, and use them for your next project.

Yes, provided you aren’t installing drywall over it. But you can skim coat it, apply new tile right on top, paint it, or stencil it. For more budget- and DIY-friendly options, you can install beadboard or apply decals. Just make sure that the current tiles are in good condition and prepped well for the paint or adhesive to stick.

No, painting shower tile doesn’t last and is better reserved as a temporary solution to refreshing the look of old tiles. Shower tile paint may last around one to five years, depending on how well you prep the surface before painting, the type of paint you use, the type of tile in your shower, and how often you use the shower.

It’s possible to walk on a clay tile roof, but you run the risk of breaking or cracking the tiles if you’re not careful, so it’s best not to walk on it if you can avoid it. If you or a contractor needs roof access, be sure to distribute your weight evenly and step on the portions of tile that are also supported underneath, which depends on your tile design. Walking on any roofing material is inherently dangerous, so wear rubber-soled shoes and use safety equipment if you need to access your roof.
