"It's hard to provide a single number review for this company. They did the job we needed as expected at the price quoted.... and it appears to have been done well. Now to the other side of the coin. Follow up support has been difficult and now impossible. They provided a LIFETIME rodent warranty with their work. We had issues with rodents in the crawlspace about 1 year later and after repeated attempts to contact them they finally came out and did some work to remedy the situation. Now about 1 year after that, we have rodent issues again. I have tried to get Jim or Jordan to return my calls, emails, texts, and messages left with an answering service for the last 2 months. I have heard nothing back. At this point all I can do is leave a below average review and hope that they will notice and contact me. So as of this writing my advice is... if you are looking for "satisfactory" work with NO guarantee of warranty service after the job is done... then these folks may work for you... BUT... if you expect that warranty issues will be taken care of after the job, then it may be best to avoid this company. UPDATE: they did contact us, came out and took care of the situation today.... and hopefully we will not have any contact issue in the future."

"I would highly recommend this company to my friends and family. They are honest and extremely knowledgeable. They will give you a fair price. Their customer service is great. They were on time and did an excellent job putting up a vapor barrier around the outside of my basement wall. Iâ m very glad I found them."

"Alberto and his team arrived ready to work. They graded the area, removed two trees, laid a brick border wall and mulch. They removed the debris and cleaned up when they finished. The space looks so much better than it did before. Thank you AB Landscaping!! I would definitely hire this company again!"

Small jobs welcome

"After a huge sinkhole appeared in my front yard, I struggled to find someone capable of permanently fixing the problem. That was before I was introduced to Ken. He was immediately able to devise a plan to repair the damage and install a drainage system that permanently re-routed water flow. He and his team worked quickly over two days to clean the area, install the drain, add rock to the surrounding area, replant displaced plants and make the whole thing look amazing. All of this for a very reasonable cost. Ken is an absolute pleasure to work with, I plan on using his services again in the future and would recommend to everyone."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Mortar and thinset both serve the same purpose—tile adhesion—but have different compositions and use-cases. Thinset is heatproof and presents a wide range of possibilities due to the added polymers. Mortar is typically used for bonding stones and brick. Thinset is rarely used outside, while mortar is rarely used inside.

You will repoint over a fraction of the old mortar, but you should scrape away 1/2 to 1 inch of mortar from the joints before repointing. Otherwise, the repointing is only masking the weakened mortar instead of actually replacing it, which could put your chimney at risk of bigger, more expensive damages later on.

You can purchase from many brick manufacturers and distributors via their websites, where you can also get estimates based on the quantity you need. You’ll find bricks at your local home improvement stores as well, though they won’t have as much of a variety to choose from. As for antique bricks, secondary selling websites like eBay can be a great resource.

Unless you’ve worked in the masonry industry before, it is in your best interest if you hire a pro for any masonry needs. Masonry-related jobs require a high skill level and can be extremely time-consuming. If anything goes wrong, a licensed and insured masonry contractor would be able to take care of the subsequent repairs, giving you additional peace of mind.

Natural stone is formed in deep layers of the Earth through natural processes over thousands of years. The solid composition formations become massive rock beds, or quarries, from which miners extract them.
