"From beginning to end, we were incredibly impressed with Crawlspaces and More. They were the fourth company we interviewed for the project, and were very knowledgeable and thorough. They addressed all concerns and questions no matter how small. I felt that they truly wanted what was best for me as the customer and stand behind their work."

"I had an excellent experience with Jim Briley and his team at Crawl Spaces and More. They are honest, reliable, and truly stand behind their work—even after 10 years, which is rare these days. Izaiah Sigala came out to evaluate a foundation drainage issue, provided a solid solution, and they fixed it without any issues. I also chose to have a full crawl space encapsulation done, along with a dehumidifier, concrete work and two JIMBO Jacks installed for deck support. Everything works perfectly. The entire team is hardworking, professional, and full of integrity. Highly recommend—no need to look anywhere else!"

"William and Jaime discussed at great length the scope of the project before we decided to go with King. They provided different approaches to fix our leaking concrete block walled basement. While most other companies would not consider an outside repair solution, King offered to provide it after we decided that the cost of ripping apart our finished basement would be too expensive. We also wanted the concrete block wall to be fully waterproofed with tar, gravity drains the length of the foundation and an outer membrane to direct water down to the gravity drain. Most companies would not offer this type of solution and instead just want to do a one day sump pump drain system from the inside which we felt would not solve the dampness issue of the block foundation wall. We were shocked by the amount of manual labour required to dig up to 10 feet to the base of the foundation especially in areas where the backhoe could not access. No wonder most other companies would not go there. During the entire project, Jaime and William were leading the crew which was also very reassuring. We were also greatly impressed that they kept working exceptionally long hours even when some issues came up that required an extra 2-3 days of work. (they had to rebuild a section of the blockwall) They simply kept working until the entire job was done. We would definitely recommend King for foundation issues and drainage issues after our experience."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, brick should be clean before staining to ensure the best results. Dirt, dust, mold, mildew, and other substances on the brick can prevent the stain from properly adhering to it. Thoroughly cleaning the brick allows the stain to penetrate and bond to the surface more effectively. Cleaning typically involves using a pressure washer or a stiff brush with mild detergent. However, stubborn residue may require a specialized masonry cleaner.

Fireclay is a type of clay but it is a type of clay that, because of its chemical composition, can be fired at a much higher temperature than other clays. This results in a denser and more heat-resistant final material. Because of the high percentage of a mineral called kaolin, fireclay sinks are smoother and more durable than other clay types.

A fireplace hearth is a fireproof flooring material that extends out from the base of the fireplace and into the room. Hearths can be made of brick, ceramic, marble, limestone, and more. A hearth serves the purpose of decreasing the fire risk in the area directly around the fireplace. If flying embers hit carpet or wood, they’ll spark and create a fire. But if they hit something like tile or granite, they’ll simply go out.

The best color to paint a brick fireplace comes down to personal taste. However, neutral colors—like white or gray—will open the space and create a bright modern look, making them popular options. However, choosing a bold color can turn your fireplace into a feature piece that will be the talk of all family gatherings.

Whether you’re installing brick siding over a traditionally-framed home or you’re using genuine brick construction to build, the biggest downside of a brick house is the higher cost you’ll pay for the materials and labor. Real brick construction also means your home build will take longer, as it’s more time-consuming to construct brick walls than it is to frame out your home.
