"From beginning to end, we were incredibly impressed with Crawlspaces and More. They were the fourth company we interviewed for the project, and were very knowledgeable and thorough. They addressed all concerns and questions no matter how small. I felt that they truly wanted what was best for me as the customer and stand behind their work."

"I would highly recommend this company to my friends and family. They are honest and extremely knowledgeable. They will give you a fair price. Their customer service is great. They were on time and did an excellent job putting up a vapor barrier around the outside of my basement wall. Iâ m very glad I found them."

"Great job on foundation repair. Very knowledgeable. Did such a great job on this I used them for repeat job. They did not cover/move the 3 pieces of furniture left in the room like William said they would. The furniture was covered in concrete dust afterwards—very frustrating to have to spend time cleaning something they could have been easily avoided. Other than that great work and customer service!"

"James, Brandon, and Devon were courteous, professional, responsive, worked hard, and did a good job. I had wall anchors installed, and helical piers to brace my leaning chimney and one down-slope corner of my house. Also had separate crew, Logan, Noah, and Bernard, follow with waterproofing. They were similarly courteous, professional, responsive, worked hard, and did a good job. 3 days for part one, one day for part two. Hauled away debris, including excavated dirt, and cleaned up reasonably. Total cost almost $20k; with lifetime transferable warranty, 3-year service plan, and 0% one-year financing."

"Vanguard's price was between two other waterproofing company. But I chose them because of the owner's honesty and professionalism. When I asked each company about competitors, Vanguard is the only company that refused to discuss the competitors. That speaks volumes. The work was clean and they explained each item on my property they were using. After the first hard rain, I checked the crawlspace and it was dry and cool. While the exterior water was running away from the home as it was drawn in their sketch for me. Finally, they offered a payment plan that was flexible. I had an overwhelming sense of peace when I selected Vanguard. That peace was confirmation that I had selected the right company. I have no regrets."

"Alberto and his team arrived ready to work. They graded the area, removed two trees, laid a brick border wall and mulch. They removed the debris and cleaned up when they finished. The space looks so much better than it did before. Thank you AB Landscaping!! I would definitely hire this company again!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In Athens, repair is usually more cost-effective than replacement when masonry damage is limited to surface cracks or minor mortar deterioration. Historic district guidelines often favor repair to preserve original brick or stone. However, if you encounter extensive water intrusion, structural instability, or widespread deterioration, replacement may be necessary. Always assess the extent of the damage and local preservation requirements before making a decision.

Helpful?

Maintaining masonry in Athens involves inspecting mortar joints for cracks after winter’s freeze-thaw cycles, as local clay soil can shift. Clean surfaces regularly to remove pollen and prevent moss growth, which thrives in humid conditions. Keep gutters clear to avoid water pooling near foundations. Sealing small cracks before summer rains and scheduling annual chimney or brickwork inspections help extend the life of your masonry.

Helpful?

In Athens, most masonry work is scheduled for fall or spring, when temperatures are moderate and humidity is lower. These conditions help mortar cure properly and reduce the risk of weather-related delays. Summer’s heat and frequent storms can compromise both worker safety and material quality, while winter’s cold can cause mortar to set improperly, making those seasons less ideal for masonry projects.

Helpful?

For masonry work in Athens, always check for underground utilities before digging, especially in established neighborhoods. Secure scaffolding is essential on clay soil, which can become slippery after rain. Workers should use protective gear, ensure proper ventilation in enclosed spaces, and be alert for lead paint or asbestos in older homes. Monitoring weather conditions helps prevent accidents during sudden storms or high humidity.

Helpful?

In Athens, hidden costs during masonry work often stem from permit requirements, especially in historic neighborhoods. Limited access in older areas may require special equipment or temporary fencing. Unstable clay soil can reveal foundation or drainage issues once work begins, leading to extra steps like soil stabilization. Seasonal humidity may also require moisture barriers, and fluctuating material availability can sometimes add to project timelines and expenses.
