"We were delighted with Matt and his quality of work on our bathroom remodel. We hired Legacy to take over an ongoing project when our prior (non Angi) contractor left us mid-project. Matt was able to salvage a poor start from previous guy and achieve our vision. He was patient, detailed and worked hard every day. He laid tile for our floor, shower, and half wall while also installing a free standing tub and repainting our vanity. I would definitely recommend Legacy Refinishing and Tile to anyone. We were very demanding and Matt delivered. Before and after photos show going from dull contractor brown to updated modern bathroom."

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Dallas to install french doors and did a great job. We also hired him to remove and replace our daughter's floor on her front porch with tile, and did demo and repair in her back deck, that included stepping stones, woodworking, painting, and hung lights, and did a very good job. He also built 8 pressure treated benches for us, asked for input for the 1st one, and completed the rest that were perfect for the use."

"Amazing job done by Gerzain and his crew at Ceramic Tile Works (CTW)! My entire powder room (5'x5') was completely gutted and redone from floor to ceiling, with the only remaining piece from the original bathroom being the toilet. It was all completed competently and surprisingly quickly, with everything done within 7 days aside from a few final adjustments. They installed absolutely everything I had bought for the bathroom, so there's no burden on the homeowner to install any miscellaneous things: wall tile, floor tile, new sheet rock, moved the light from wall to the ceiling, vanity, sink plumbing/faucet, toilet plumbing, mirror, TP holder, towel holder, light switches, duplex outlet, light switch and duplex outlet faceplate, ceiling exhaust fan, wall register, toilet seat, toilet flush handle, the wall decorations, new door (painted), door hardware, door hinges. Gerzain was always very nice and responsive to my messages full of questions all throughout every stage of the project, even during the 4 month delay caused by the vanity manufacturer's severe supply/production issues. Gerzain's crew was very nice as well, and asked for direction from me any time there was a decision to be made. And it's worth noting that all projects run into issues, and this project was no exception. Once everything was installed we noted the in-swing door cleared the vanity by about a millimeter, which was a little too close for my taste. This issue was solved by replacing the door with an out-swing door, which allowed for a lot more space in the tiny powder room. Another issue we ran into was that the faucet vendor had sent a defective product (two right handles; unknown until installed), and the replacement did not arrive until after the remodelling job was completed. CTW was totally cool about it, and sent the crew back to remove the bad faucet and install the new one even though they technically didn't have to. Overall, I'm very happy with the finished product, and it was so nice to work with such a good, patient, and accommodating crew. I really appreciated the extra mile they went to make sure this job was completed perfectly for me. Highly recommended!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

Professional installation ensures a uniform, durable surface, and proper sealing, and guarantees workmanship quality, preventing future issues linked to water damage or instability.
