Customers say: True professional

"Great experience having this company cut down our tree. They not only cut the tree but left the area like one hadn’t even been there. From the first time we communicated with Oscar until the job was complete, he was very prompt to respond. Would highly recommend this company for services."

"We hired them to remove a large pine in front of our house and they were simply fantastic. Very efficient and safe and completed the job exactly as they said they would. We have hired them for other yard tasks and they are always great. I highly recommend them. We will continue to use them as it go-to yard company"

"When Mr Early surveyed the job and explained how we would do it, I knew he was a true professional. He even asked where the septic lines were so as not to damage them. He was conscientious to not damage our yard in the process, and this was a big job: 15 huge cedar trees were taken out as well as a line of bushes. Yard damage was very minimal, virtually nonexistent. About 10 years ago I had three other trees removed and the crew that did it left my yard a wreck. His price was competitive and he was on the job every day until it was done. I highly recommend his services."

"Nelson was very knowledgeable about the trees and pointed out what I should look for. In the quote, he offered also for the team to clear out some of the other smaller trees and debris in the yard. The team came out on time and finished the job quickly, cleaning up well at the end."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Most tree removals take 3-8 hours, requiring additional time for stump grinding or debris hauling.

Stump grinding consists of removing the visible part of the stump, but the roots remain intact. Depending on the tree and root system, the roots may still grow after stump grinding. If you are concerned about root growth and damage, you may want to consider having a stump removed completely.

You may be looking to identify maple trees to use for home improvement projects. In that case, you can tell hard maples by looking at their leaves. Leaves will have a U-shaped dip, or sinus, between the points, or lobes, of the leaves. Leaves of soft maples tend to have V-shaped sinuses.

If you already have the cut wood in front of you, look for a light, uniform color to identify hard maple wood and check for variations of red, gray, or brown streaks and an overall darker color in soft maple wood.

In general, trees should be planted no closer than 15 to 20 feet from your foundation. For larger trees with far-reaching roots like maples, oaks, or poplars, a good guide is to plant as many feet from your home as the tree’s height is expected to reach at maturity. Some trees, like elms and willows, should only be planted far from where their roots may encounter sewer or water lines.
