"Half Moon Custom Homes was a great company to work with. Things they did well: Communication - We always knew what was going on with our project from planning stage to final inspection. Planning - Experienced builder to offer guidance all throughout the project. Cost - In a strange lumber priced economy, the builder approached our project with concern and a plan to how we might be affected by materials pricing. Availability - The builder was here to oversee stages of the building project and responded to each call in a timely manner. Expectations - HMCH checked in often to make sure we were pleased with how the build was going. In the end, we have a beautiful 2 car garage with guest room and full bath."

"Morales and his team entirely renovated two bathrooms in our condo in downtown Savannah and worked in the flooring as well, changing the carpet by laminate. We loved the result! The team is very polite and focused on customer service. They want to make sure that their customer is happy with the service they do. They are very attentive to details. We are very happy and highly recommend Morales and his team."

Garages questions, answered by experts

Most heat in a garage is lost through air leaks in windows, doors, and walls. This is especially true if the walls are uninsulated, which is common in garages. Consider insulating your garage before installing a garage heater to ensure the heat it generates isn’t wasted, making it less efficient.

If you also have a standard door leading to your garage, install a robust deadbolt lock and reinforce the frame with security plates. Then, secure any windows with shatterproof glass or film to deter break-ins. Consider a smart garage door opener for your car entrance, enabling remote monitoring and control through your smartphone. Motion-activated lighting around the garage to deter intruders is a great way to amplify these security efforts. Lastly, educate your family on security practices, such as keeping the garage entrances closed and locked.

You can prevent your garage from freezing by applying techniques like sprinkling salt onto the garage floor, installing a garage heater, shoveling snow outside the door, and more. Additional methods of preventing your garage from freezing over is to seal all potential air gaps, replace weatherstripping, and adding insulation to the surrounding walls to keep the heat from escaping.

It is possible to manually open a garage door. However, whether you should manually open a garage door depends on the source of the problem. If the door doesn't open because of a broken spring or cable, for safety's sake, you'll want to leave the door closed until you can have a professional inspect it and repair it. If the problem lies with the opener itself, you should usually have no problem opening the door manually.

Sheet metal garage doors, particularly steel and aluminum, have the cheapest materials and installation. Experienced homeowners may cut and shape the metal themselves; however, you can buy prefabricated metal from a hardware store or pay a metal fabricator to shape the metal to your specifications. Steel and aluminum garage doors can cost as little as $500 and go up to $3,000.
