"This company was very professional and personable at the same time. Prompt response to my initial call, quick turn around on a custom order, and upfront with answers to my questions. They covered the area below the skylight and was careful about tracking dirt from the outside or roofing materials dropping down during the replacement. My skylight was 20 years old, very oversize & custom shaped, so understandably, the cost to replace was a little more than stock sizes, but I am thoroughly satisfied and happy with the results. We would use them again!"

"Excellent. Started on January 26th and expected to take 2+ days. Arrived at house at 7;30 am and began removing old shingles. New shingles and associated materials arrived by 8:00 am. On site was a Project Manager who has the GAF Factory-Certified Master Elite Roofing Certification, a Foreman and one roofing crew. The temperature was in the low 40s and around 10:00 am it began to drizzle. The Project Manager proceeded to bring in a second roofing crew to expedite the work. Under very adverse weather conditions on a very steep roof, work continued until 7:00 pm when it became too dark to safely work on the roof. By this time the new roof was approximately 98% complete. The next morning, one crew returned to complete the roof and thoroughly clean up the worksite. I found the workmanship and work ethic by everyone on site very impressive.

"They were punctual, efficient and left the property as if no work had ever been done. We have since sold that home. The inspector told us that the roof was incredible. He said it was literally the best roofing job he had ever seen. Would use Paul and the Peachtree company again without hesitation."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Whether you need a permit to install a skylight depends on the scope of the project and local regulations. Generally, permits are required if the installation involves altering the structural components of your home, such as moving roof rafters. In some municipalities, a permit might also be necessary if the skylight protrudes above the highest point of your existing roof. However, if no structural changes are made, a permit may not be needed. The cost for a skylight installation permit is typically under $100. A convenient time to add a skylight is during a roof replacement, as your contractor can incorporate the new opening into the design.

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

Professionals repair or seal a skylight by inspecting for damages, resealing any gaps with appropriate weatherproofing materials, replacing cracked glass or seals, and ensuring the frame is tightly fitted to prevent future leaks and ensure proper drainage.

Yes, flat roofs can make use of a skylight or window to allow natural light into the home. When finding the best skylight installer, it’s important to pick a professional with experience working with a flat roof. The installer must pick the right type of window design to match the slight slope of the roof.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.
