"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"Did a great job - had to use some armstrong power to get one window opened...but did with a smile! I did not have my porch skylights included in my quote but had them do for a nominal fee. Was very happy with their work and professionalism"

"Recently moved to the Atlanta, GA area and bought a house that needed some work. First order of business was to install some skylights because the house looked so dark! I found Sunshine Boys by doing a NextDoor search. When I left a message inquiring about an install job, I was contacted by the sales agent, Darryl White, and set up an appointment to get an estimate. Darryl was on time, very cordial, and professional. We talked about what I wanted and needed. He inspected the home, went up into the attic, took some measurements and made recommendations. I got a genuine feel he did not try and up-sell with un-necessary add ons. We talked through the options and I received a quote a few days later. To be a prudent purchaser of goods and services, especially with a project, I feel you need to get at least 3 quotes. I received quotes from other competitors and they all were reasonably the same in price. I decided to go with Sunshine Boys because I got a genuine feeling they stand behind their work and the honest approach Darryl used. With any project, you are likely to run into "issues" and this project definitely ran into one. We decided to go with an install of two large skylights and one skylight in the hall way. The install was scheduled, and during the install, it started to rain. Thank you Georgia for your summer thunderstorms. Long story short, some water got in, and to be honest, it could have been many factors. Water coming in while they were installing, I mean, you do have an open hole in the roof, or it could have been excess water collected on the ladder. In any case, I contacted Darryl and the owner ready with well armed information to make a claim against them. I dread having to argue a case, no matter how small the damage may be. When speaking with them, rather than making excuses, I was taken back by them both saying, "we will make it right." No fuss, no questions, or excuses. They did make things right. The owner and Darryl came by during the install of the remaining skylights to check in and personally express their apologies and again thanking me for the business. Because they stand by their work, and the integrity shown, I decided to post a positive review on all of the review sites because I think they deserve more business. If you are in need of skylights, your first choice should be Sunshine Boys and be sure to ask Darryl White; he a fantastic individual and he definitely has your back."

"Atlanta Window Pro is amazing! If you are looking to windows, doors or skylights then Atlanta Window Pro is your place. We need 2 skylights and AWP walked us through the history of skylights and educated us. Not only that he came to drop them off and made sure the skylight opening was fled to make sure we get as much as natural lighting in the house. Their price was also very competitive. Highly recommended for skylight replacement."

"Marcus beat two other contractors in the area.  He had the highest quality product and best price.  The installation was conducted safely and the cleanup was thorough.  He replaced damaged sections of decking and installed a "cricket" to improve drainage where the damage to the old roof had occurred.  He also installed a Solatube skylight.
It has been over a year since the installation, it has been one of the rainiest on record, and there have been no issues whatsoever.
I would use M&C Roofing again, but not for this house because I'm pretty sure this roof will outlive me.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

There are four main types of lighting used in homes: ambient, task, accent, and decorative. Within these categories, there are a number of fixtures to choose from including ceiling-mounted lights, floor lamps, under-cabinet lights, track lighting, and more.

Choosing the fixture that’s right for you depends on your home design and the area you’re looking to illuminate.

To maintain a skylight and ensure its performance over time, regular maintenance is required. This includes periodically cleaning the glass and frame to remove dirt, debris, and condensation. It is also crucial to inspect the seals and flashing at least once a year for any signs of wear, degradation, or leaks, paying special attention after heavy storms. Ensure that the drainage system is clear to prevent water buildup and potential leaks. Address minor issues like cracks promptly and consider occasional resealing to prevent drafts and moisture problems. While energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings or double glazing may require less upkeep, periodic professional servicing can help keep any skylight in optimal condition.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Skylights might sometimes increase your homeowners insurance premium, but the increase is usually minimal. Some home insurance companies won’t adjust your premium with the addition of a skylight, so you can contact your insurer or your professional skylight installer to ask about any expected changes. It’s crucial to have an expert install the skylight, as insurance companies may not insure your roof or cover water damage that results from a non-professional skylight installation.
