"I did not use this company for my electrical work. I do commend them on their quick response and follow up. They were up front with me on the additional charges due to my location and being outside of their normal working area."

"I?ve never had Lightning Rods on my home before so I don?t have much to compare it to but he was prompt courteous cleaned up after himself and did everything he promised. For years I?ve handled fire claims for policyholders against insurance companies but I?ve never been to a fire at a location that had Lightning Rods. Just a thought."

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"John, the owner, called me back seconds after I hit submit online. Within 20 minutes he was at my house to give me an estimater. I hired him on the spot. He came the following weekend to complete the project. A crew of 4 came to work on the house. They were all very pleasant and had great personalities. They all worked for work that day to ensure the project was completed in one day. I will use them moving forward, for any electrical needs and will be referring them to anyone I know that need works done."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Most electric water heaters have a built-in shut-off switch, so you can simply turn that to the OFF position. Some water heaters have the switch inside a panel, so you might need to unscrew the panel, remove it, move aside the insulation, and then shut the water heater off. To make sure it’s off, you can also locate the switch for your water heater in your electrical panel and shut the power off there. Most electrical panels have dedicated switches for the water heater, so you can shut off the power without affecting the rest of your home.

If you have a tank-type electric water heater, it runs regularly to keep the water at the desired temperature. If you live in a home where you don’t use much hot water, it could seem wasteful to run power to heat water that you’re using infrequently. You could save some power by using a smaller tank, insulating the tank, or lowering the temperature of the water heater.

Before hiring an electrician, check out the contractor’s official website, read reviews, and look them up on your local Department of Labor’s website. If you’re hiring for a complex job, pay special attention to their level of expertise. Also, call up pros directly to ask about their insurance status, specifically liability insurance, and request customer references.

The easiest way to determine the amperage of your electrical outlets is to check the corresponding breaker in your home’s breaker panel. The number is likely noted on the circuit breaker. If that fails, it’s possible to tell 15-amp and 20-amp outlets apart by looking at them. Fifteen-amp outlets have two vertical holes, while 20-amp outlets have one vertical hole and one T-shaped hole.

To fix a tripped light switch, locate your home's electrical panel and identify the tripped circuit breaker. It will be in the "off" or neutral position. Flip the breaker entirely to the "off" position, then switch it back to the "on" position. If the breaker trips again immediately, there may be a short circuit or overload in the system, requiring further investigation. If the switch still doesn't work after resetting the breaker, check for loose wires or faulty components in the switch itself. It is always best to consult a licensed electrician for persistent issues and when in doubt.
