"Mr. Scott and his workers were skilled, respectful and timely. They completely gutted our old garden tub, soiled carpeting, made the old shower into a closet and replace a old moldy vanity. They rebuild a shower from scratch with beautiful tile, replaced the flooring with gorgeous laminate, painted the entire bathroom, and replaced the vanity...our the bathroom is updated and gorgeous...everything looks great! Mr. Scott and his workers came in did their job in a prompt and professional manner. No complaints only praises for his professionalism. "I had an old wooden attic ladder that got broken from a water heater being carried down it. The door wouldn't close all the way. I purchased a replacement and realized it was too heavy for me to deal with. Chris contacted me and gave me a great price. He and his son Caleb came and installed (including cutting the ladder down to fit and also some additional adjustments for the hole so it fit accurately). They cleaned up the area and even got rid of the box that the new attic ladder came in. I was so happy with the work, I asked him to give me a price on another project."

"Overall it went well.  Mr. Eric Hooks was very responsive in coming to give estimate.  Started kitchen and living room work as per our agreement, finished as contracted.  Did a great job at a fair price. I then hired Eric to enlarge wood fence gate, fix front yard pole lighting and sensor.  I needed the fence gate enlarged pretty quickly so truck and tree removal equipment could get through the gate. He accomplished the enlargement as promised.  The electrical outlet installation, light & sensor repair/replacement  and fence work required some revisits for adjustments but overall Mr. Hooks and his team does quality work and are very curtious and professional.  I  recommend his services to others and I would/will hire his company again."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

A cement backer board is not needed for laying tile on concrete. Sometimes referred to as a cementitious backer unit, or CBU, backer board should be used if the subfloor is plywood or OSB. The backer board provides a base on which to install the tiles that isn’t as likely to be damaged by any accidental water seepage as natural materials would be.

In some cases, granite tiles can be installed over existing flooring if the surface is level, stable, and free of moisture issues. However, removing old flooring is often recommended to ensure a secure and long-lasting installation, as well as to avoid height differences at thresholds. Consult with your flooring pro to determine the best approach based on your specific situation.

Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.

When tiling over concrete, you should install an anti-fracture membrane after the concrete has been prepared. The anti-fracture membrane acts as a moisture barrier and should be installed to protect the tiles from moisture which helps maintain their integrity. Often, Ditra, a brand name, is used interchangeably with moisture barrier.

For professional labor and materials, it would cost between $6,000 and $28,000 to install 1,000 square feet of Saltillo tile flooring. If that’s out of your budget, you could consider laying the tiles yourself or choosing a less expensive type of flooring. For example, vinyl flooring costs just $2 to $7 per square foot, so for a 1,000-square-foot space, you’d pay $2,000 to $7,000.
