"I had been trying all week to find someone to come and fix a refrigerator that had not been cooling or freezing for days. The warranty company (LG) and my home warranty company both said they couldn't find a technician to come, so I was on my own. I finally contacted Angi's list out of desperation, and before I even finished filling out the form, Fresh and Pure called and we set an appointment for the following morning. My advice is -- first, DON'T bother with warranties, they are worthless, and second -- Call Pure and Fresh!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Compared to certain types of firewood like pine or spruce—which burn off sticky resin contained within the wood that creates lots of smoke—elm isn’t the worst option for burning in a fireplace.

Because elm wood is dense, it burns at a moderate pace and does a pretty good job of keeping your home warm. Hardwood like maple or oak may perform slightly better, but elm isn’t a bad choice overall.

To build a patio with a built-in fire pit, expect to pay an average of $6,750. The cost to build a patio alone is an average of $3,500. Although the cost of construction is higher, the patio and fire pit combination offers a better resale value than a patio alone or a patio with a fire pit add-on.

If there’s a draft within your fireplace, it can lead to a weakening of its flame. And when the fire burns the wood, it won’t burn effectively, resulting in a build up of soot and smoke. If you notice this happening, you’ll want to inspect the glass to see where the draft is getting in. You can also hire a fireplace repair pro to do the work for you.

The answer can vary widely based on a home's age and design. As with any type of remodeling project, assume that every structure is load-bearing until confirming otherwise with a structural engineer. Almost all modern homes have chimneys that are fully independent from the rest of the home's framing. As a result, they don't bear any load beyond their own weight. However, many historic homes built prior to the 1900s contain load-bearing chimneys that tie into the surrounding roof and floor joists. If possible, use a home's blueprints or look for chimney connections that indicate load-bearing qualities to get your answer.

A chimney cleaning brick or log can help loosen creosote between professional chimney cleaning appointments. Although they can help keep your chimney cleaner, they are not a substitute for chimney sweeping and are not meant to be used regularly.
