"I hired Outdoor Visions to install almost 60 trees as a privacy hedge. Austin was friendly and very communicative, and he and his crew did a great job. They showed up on time, finished quickly, and cleaned up afterwards. I will definitely be hiring them again in the future!"

"David did a great job on my driveway, it was really messed up with concrete that was poured by another company and not smoothed out right. After David and his helper were through my driveway looked great!! I would recommend this company to anyone that needs any work that they specialize in. David is a good Christian man and a sweetheart, very nice and polite. His helper (sorry, I didn't get his name) is very nice and polite also. Thanks David for your help and if I need anything else done, I will give you a call."

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Richie and his team at Sanford's Landscaping to add a new deck and fire pit area to my cabin, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! From start to finish, Richie was incredibly professional, attentive, and transparent. His expertise and eye for detail were evident in every aspect of the project. The craftsmanship of the deck is top-notch, with every board perfectly aligned and the finish flawless, truly complementing the natural beauty of my cabin's surroundings. The fire pit area is an absolute dream come true – it's beautifully constructed with just the right aesthetic to match the rustic vibe of the cabin while offering functionality and safety. Richie and his team were punctual, clean, and organized, making the whole process stress-free. They respected my property and left the construction site tidy each day. The project was completed on time and within the agreed budget, which was very reasonable for the quality of work provided. I highly recommend Sanford's Landscaping to anyone looking to enhance their outdoor living space. Richie's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is unmatched. If you're in the market for a reliable, skilled, and courteous contractor, look no further than Richie and his team at Sanford's Landscaping. Thank you, Richie, for transforming my cabin’s outdoor space into a stunning retreat!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

After you successfully remove your boulder, you have a few options for what to do to get rid of it. You can rent a dumpster if your yard has many boulders or if you’re planning a larger project. You can even save the boulder and reuse it elsewhere on your property to save on landscaping costs. A few ideas include using the boulder as a natural, abstract statue, breaking it into smaller pieces to line your garden bed, or offering it to a landscaping company that could reuse it for another project.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

A walk-behind trencher can cut through roots as long as they’re not too thick, making a project much easier than digging with a shovel and other hand tools. Assess your terrain and the number of trees in the surrounding area to determine if a walk-behind trencher will ease the job. Digging a trench by hand is much more time-consuming and labor-intensive.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.
