"I called GA lock based on the ratings here and that it was a local company. I needed a next day appointment, but was shocked when he initially said he could be there in 26 minutes! Appt was for 10am the following day, but he had to move it due to an emergency call (which I fully understood). We set up 1pm. He was prompt, courteous, explained the work we needed in order to pass Fulton Co inspections. End cost was less than quoted! I would recommend GA Lock to anyone needing lock service."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

When the temps drop, sometimes you need to thaw a lock to regain access. Options include warming the key with warm water, applying a de-icing spray, or using a hair dryer on low heat. Avoid using boiling water to prevent damage. To prevent future freezing, consider installing a cover or shield over the lock to keep water and ice out. Remember to be patient and gentle during thawing to avoid damaging the lock or key. If all else fails, consult a professional locksmith.

Yes, but adding a deadbolt to some door materials, like steel, may make installation a little bit trickier. For these materials, you will want to hire a locksmith to do the work for you, but be aware that they may charge an additional fee of $25 to $50 or more.

Yes, with better technology now available, it’s possible to add a smart lock on your sliding glass door. Smart locks can be easy for almost everyone in the family to operate and can connect to other safety features in the home, like smart lights. Plus, they’re harder for would-be criminals to pick. However, keep in mind that smart locks can potentially be hacked, and some completely rely on phones or Wi-Fi, which can be an issue if the power goes out.

Lubricating a door lock is an important part of door lock maintenance. It involves taking the lubricant of your choice (it’s best to use whatever the lock’s manufacturer suggests) and spraying it directly into the keyway. Push and pull your key in and out of the lock to make sure it’s all the way in.

Deadbolts are solid and durable as can be, but the pin and tumbler can still be forced open, thus making this type of lock susceptible to picking. Most types of deadbolts are harder to pick than a traditional spring-based lock, though. It requires a specialized lock pick and a tension wrench to align all of the pins, thus unlocking the door.
