"As a realtor, I often encounter homes needing new HVACs or repairs. I constantly recommend Triad Mechanical to my clients because they are fast and affordable! Last week, I had a competing business give me a quote for a new AC for the basement. They quoted $7000. I immediately called Kaylee at Triad to see if they could give us a quote as well. They came out the next day and within fifteen minutes my seller received an estimate with almost $2500 savings! Needless to say, we will be moving ahead with Triad!"

"Bobby came out and installed a complete Trane system and even relocated the furnace and A/C compressor to a more sensible location. The installation crew was polite, professional and efficient. The new heating and air system works flawlessly. Best service I have ever gotten from a HVAC company ever!"

"It was really good to have someone there who was socialble and willing to explain any questions we had. Even explained very well about the ac and how it works. Very reliable and the price was very reasonable and the quality of work was great. Came after hours and got to work on our unit quick and was done in no time. I will definitely hire them and the gentleman that did the work again when I replace my furnace and a/c. Thank you so much."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

On average, replacing an AC compressor costs between $800 and $2,300, but it could cost as much as $2,800. There are a few factors that impact the price of a compressor replacement, including the type and size of the compressor, as well as the type of HVAC system and local labor rates.

Most HVAC surge protectors last about three to five years, depending on how often your home experiences blackouts or brownouts. If your unit is susceptible to more frequent electrical surges, consider replacing your surge protector every two years. Consult your HVAC professional to determine when and how often to replace your HVAC surge protectors.

Yes, it’s important to turn off your AC sometimes to give it a break and prevent it from freezing up. If your AC runs all the time, your system’s parts will wear down quicker, which may mean that you need to replace it sooner. Plus, using your AC constantly uses more electricity and leads to higher energy bills.

While it is possible to add Freon to your AC unit yourself, it is not recommended. In fact, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prohibits the handling of Freon without a license. Freon is a dangerous gas that can cause irreversible damage to your AC or yourself if not installed correctly. It is worthwhile to hire a professional to add Freon to your AC.

To reset your air conditioner, start by turning it off at the thermostat. Then, shut off power to the AC system at the circuit breaker. Some units have a dedicated "reset" button; if yours does, press and hold it for three to five seconds. If your air conditioner doesn't have a reset button, or if you are resetting it after a power outage, leave the circuit breaker off for at least 30 minutes to allow the system to reset itself. Afterward, turn the power back on at the breaker, turn on the AC from the thermostat, and set it to "cool" to test the system.
