"Harrison and his crew were wonderful and helpful! We hired Harrison after a broad search for contractors and we found him to be the most professional and had fair pricing. We had a lot of work to be done, but he helped prioritize projects so as to not overwhelm our home during the construction! He was timely and communicated any pricing changes (materials have gone up - no fault to him) and made sure we were comfortable and in the loop on progress. Our new kitchen and bathroom are gorgeous and we’re thrilled with our service!"

"I wanted to change the colors in my house but knew it wasn’t a project I wanted to tackle on my own. Gridline Painting made the process so smooth! Multiple rooms painted, and tall foyer. Paint job was perfect, cleaned up with no mess left behind. I also had some exterior trim painted and it looks great! Definitely recommend!"

"The Handy Duo was amazing from first contact. We were in a bind with a previous contractor that decks failed inspection miserably. The contractor was not able to be reached after multiple attempts in various avenues to correct the failures. The Handy Duo were thorough and educational in walking us through exactly what the failures were and why from a safety perspective. The Handy Duo also walked us through exactly what they would have to do to bring the decks up to code. The Handy Duo took every effort to preserve what they could to help us in our bind and ensure we were comfortable and confident in their ability to do the job effectively and efficiently. The Handy Duo under promised and truly over delivered in quality, communication, and timing. We will definitely be hiring them again for other jobs."

"What a great experience.  Jeff showed up on time and provided a quick and professional evaluation.   He didn't try to push any unneeded repairs and told me straight out that I didn't require any of his services.  Jeff did provide me with some great tips on water proofing my home and solid references for some local contractors.  If you want the straight scoop, see Jeff first.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.

While it is possible to build a wooden carport yourself, especially if you are skilled in carpentry, professional construction is recommended. Professionals ensure structural integrity, proper anchoring, correct alignment, and the use of quality materials for a stable and durable result.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.
