"Ragsdale services our HVAC system since 2008. Their excellent service record gave us the incentive to include them in a bid with 4 participants. Despite negotiating during a heat wave, Ragsdale's Chris Boyd came through with a winning efficient 2-stage system proposal in one week. We thank the LORD that we will continue to do business with Art Ragsdale's most competent staff. --- Rev. Rob, USMC veteran"

"Austin is fantastic! He was quick to respond and diagnosed our original problem with ease- which required other specialists. He even recommended a wonderful contracting service to help with the issue he diagnosed. A couple days later we ran into another problem with the HVAC. Austin answered the phone on a Sunday morning and was able to come out the next day. He then helped diagnose and solve the issue which was more electrical related than HVAC. He left and my husband realized he forgot to ask about something else but when we called he was able to turn around and come back. He created a solution to a mediocre HVAC install (done before we moved in) and caught another issue that could have done some real damage if left unfixed, all for a very reasonable price. Austin is without a doubt our go-to HVAC guy from now on!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

No, it isn’t necessarily bad to turn your AC on and off frequently—contrary to popular belief. Even if you stop and start your AC throughout the day, it won’t use as much energy as it would if you ran it nonstop.

If you’re concerned about your power consumption and energy costs, there are a few simple ways to use your AC more efficiently. Regularly cleaning the filters, scheduling routine maintenance, and using a programmable thermostat are all great choices.

Signs that your A/C system needs professional service include increased energy bills, uneven or poor cooling, loud or unusual noises, and frequent cycling.

The difference between a home surge protector and an HVAC surge protector is that an HVAC surge protector is designed to protect the components inside your HVAC unit while a home surge protector is installed near appliances and meant to protect your entire home. There are three tiers of whole-house surge protectors, and they are more expensive to install than HVAC surge protectors.

Yes. In fact, not only are AC tuneups worth it, but they’re actually necessary to keep your air conditioner in good condition, improve its efficiency, and potentially prevent major damage. Experts recommend getting a tuneup at least once per year. In most cases, you’ll want to schedule it during the spring so that you can address any issues before the hottest months of the year.

The best way to reduce heat upstairs is to release it by opening a window. Hot air rises, and if you can create some airflow by opening a window upstairs and also one on a lower level, the hot air should be pushed out of the home. Remember that fans pointing out the window do a much better job of circulating air than fans pointing into the home.
