"My experience started out great, from the first call to the evaluation. I was able to get an appointment within the same week. Even called back to let me know an opening had become available. During the evaluation I felt AAA Basement was being honest with me about what was needed. No Services were needed, but I was a list of things to work on to prevent mold from developing. The list was explained thoroughly and discussed the need for a Dehumidifier. We have since put in the dehumidifier and things are going great.

"Shane and Chris did a fantastic job with my old rotten kitchen floor. It ended up being a bigger job than expected, but they handled it well. They rebuilt the old floor from the ground up. New floor joist, subfloor and jacked the old floor back up to level with the new floor they installed. They installed new lanoleum flooring and a badly needed ceiling fan with lights. They did a great job connecting the old kitchen to the new."

"I was thrilled with the craftsmanship and overall professionalism of this company. This is a good group of guys that know what they are doing and how to make the customer happy. I would recommend south post contracting to any contact in my phone and beyond. I spoke with the owner of the company directly and he was more than helpful and knowledgeable of the job I needed done. I can’t give south post enough praise, just give them a call and find out for yourself."

"I would not use this service again. It started off great, Amanda was responsive and she really is talented. I appreciated her ideas and she steered is in a great direction out of the gate without materials and design choices. While I appreciated Amanda's ideas and loved her recommendations, once the remodel started moving forward her responsiveness was NOT at all in line with the time needed to make decisions (7-10 days to answer an email in multiple cases). I ended up having to make choices on my own in tight timelines without her input on how it would fit with the design we were working on. The reason I chose this service was to get help making smart decisions about our home remodel to minimize the time, energy and stress involved in the process. I would say this service was NOT at all appropriate for those needs. Waiting 7-10 days for help with remodel decisions simply does not cut it. I did most of the footwork and choosing on my own due to the lag in response time. While I liked Amanda and feel she was very talented, I get the feeling this company has one designer that is way overloaded with projects and she simply is not keeping up.
If you decide to go ahead with this service despite this information, make sure you schedule weekly calls and come with a list of questions well in advance of when you need answers.
In addition, exercise caution when purchasing any materials through their discounted relationships. I ordered 2 rugs that were not available for shipment for more than 60 days after my order. Later, I decided that the rugs were not as big a priority as some other unexpected expenses that came up during the project. The rugs had still had not shipped and I had not been charged. Now I do not intend to place blame with HMD for my change of decision and given the amount of paperwork I had to sign when purchasing the rugs, I thought there would be a chance I'd be stuck with the purchase. All of that is none of their fault. The frustrating part of the situation is that it has been several weeks since I asked whether I could cancel the order all the time getting closer to the rug ship date. I got one vague email a week ago saying maybe the order could be cancelled with a restock fee. Restock fee? That doesn't make sense to me. It never left the stock, it hasn't shipped, and I haven't even been charged. Worse, I still don't known whether the order can be cancelled or not. So that process has been confusing and HMD has not been very responsive to my need for an answer. I would advise NOT to purchase anything through them unless you are absolutely sure it is perfect and it is in stock and can ship immediately. Don't plan on being able to change your mind or make returns without a hassle.
In the end I got two one hour calls and a total of about ~15 emails (short answers easily composed in 5-10 min) for $600. NOT a deal in my book. In fairness to Amanda, we also have a great looking house that I will not pretend is not due to some great advice from her at the beginning of the project. I think this company has potential if it can manage response time better especially for big projects, but I cannot recommend at current service level.

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Rebar is an essential part of reinforcing a basement floor, as not having it can impact its structural integrity. It helps absorb the tension factors that contribute to cracks in your floor and strengthens its load-bearing capabilities by evenly distributing the weight. Not including rebar could lead to an unstable floor, so don’t skip it!

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment, typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost. This upfront payment helps cover the costs of materials, permits, and subcontractors. The remaining project costs are usually billed after specific project milestones are reached or on set completion dates, as outlined in your contract. Be wary of contractors who require a significant deposit of 50% or more upfront, as this could be a red flag for a scam.

Adding a bathroom to your basement can increase your home value since homes with multiple bathrooms sell for more. The return on investment (ROI) for a basement bathroom is 50% to 75%. The actual return varies with your home and location. Adding a half bath to your home increases the value by 2.9% while finishing a basement increases the home value by 6.6%.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

Save money on your basement finishing project by making cost-effective decisions such as minimizing structural changes and avoiding costly construction revisions. DIY simpler tasks such as painting or basic cleanup to reduce labor costs. You can also opt for energy-efficient fixtures and materials that may qualify for rebates or tax incentives.
