"Rodney and Terry arrived on time 8:30AM. Rodney answered questions/concerns I had about insulation. They proceeded getting the job done. I was having this done as my garage gets very hot in the summer, no ventilation in attic. Rodney recommended a solar fan on roof. Will have this done is the spring time. I got recommedations and quotes from several other companies. They were recommending other types of insulation that cost a lot more. Was very happy with price and service I got with Reichel Insulaltion. "

"We met with several roofing companies and decided on an aluminum roof to replace the shingle roof on our house on Anna Maria Island. Tim, the sales representative met with us and discussed SolarShield's product and installation, etc. The work started earlier than contracted due to an opening in the schedule and was completed within the week. The installers were professional and friendly and the area was clean of debris after each day of work. SolarShield took care of all the permits, removing the existing roof covering, furnished and installed truss straps and fasteners, ridge vent system , insulation, and flashings. Frank (owner) was available and inspected the workmanship throughout the installation. He took photos during the process for the insurance company, as well as completed the hurricane wind mitigation report. The roof looks better than any other metal roof in the area. We have subsequently had solar panels put on the roof and the installers commented as to how well this roof was installed and that this roof will easily last over 50 years. Comments like that from installers who are on roofs daily validated that quality of the materials and workmanship of the roof installed by SolarShield. We would highly recommend SolarShield if you are considering replacement of a roof that will last. "

"MARC JONES CONSTRUCTION TEAM ARRIVED ON SCHEDULE AND INSTALLED THE SOLAR ARRAY OVER TWO DAYS. ON MONDAY, WE HAD INSPECTION AND A FEW DAYS LATER THE ATTIC WAS INSULATED WITH FOAM TO REDUCE HEAT LOAD ON AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHLY EXCEPT FOR INADVERTANTLY UNPLUGGING THE SYSTEM CIRCUITBREAKER DURING THE FOAMING OPERATIO. "

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."
Spreading tin foil over your windows works similarly to radiant barrier insulation, but not as well. It will reflect some of the sunlight that would otherwise come through the glass and warm up the inside of your home, so it might help a little to keep your home cool in the summer. However, the appearance isn’t preferable to blinds or drapes that can offer the same benefits. You might also consider tinting your windows instead, which is a more aesthetically pleasing change that can still block a good portion of the solar heat coming through your windows.
Unfaced wall insulation is easier to cut and install, making it the better choice for a DIY project. It’s also more affordable. But if it’s unfaced, you’ll likely need to add a vapor barrier to reach your desired R-value and efficiency, as it doesn’t offer any moisture barrier.
Faced insulation uses paper or foil to create a built-in barrier and doesn’t require an extra step. It’s also more fire-resistant and safe. But it’s quite a bit more expensive and a little bit harder to work with as a DIYer.
The cost to install or upgrade insulation generally ranges from $1.50 to $4.00 per square foot. The final price depends on factors such as the type of insulation chosen, the total area to be covered (home size), and local labor costs.
Depending on the size, insulation condition, and removal method, it can take anywhere from four hours up to twenty hours. Therefore, be prepared to split the projects into phases, or leave it to a professional. Insulation is an intermediate project with various risk factors and can be challenging to someone unfamiliar with the process.
Mineral wool has an excellent life expectancy of up to 50 years, provided it's kept dry and free of pests. Compared to fiberglass, with a life span of 20 to 30 years, mineral wool stacks up well for long-term cost savings. Sheep wool maintains a similar life span to fiberglass, while estimates for hemp wool insulation life expectancies are all over the board, ranging anywhere from 20 to 100 years.
