"I had innovation spray foam come out and do some blown insulation in the attic. It is a family business run by a bunch of brothers all were very nice. Pete was the man I initially talked to he made sure I got what I was looking for and his twin brother Betuel came by and knocked out the work in 1 day! Very happy with the work!"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The life span of fiberglass insulation can be as long as 80 to 100 years, but because of changing building codes, it’s best to get your insulation checked every 10 to 15 years. Signs of degrading fiberglass insulation include bits of batts on the floor or batts detached from frames. Having optimal, healthy insulation in your home will improve its energy efficiency, lowering your monthly bills.

We do not recommend fiberglass insulation for soundproofing purposes, especially if you are working on a room that’s part of your living space. Fiberglass insulation is dangerous, and the installation process is hazardous. It is also harmful to the environment. When there are so many newer, healthier non-fiberglass alternatives in the market, the lower cost of fiberglass insulation simply doesn’t justify the harm and danger it poses.

Insulation prevents heat transfer, which keeps your home cool in summer and warm in winter. Regulating the temperature in your home is not only more comfortable for you, but will lower your heating and cooling bills—it’s a win-win. Make sure to determine the correct amount of insulation to ensure it is enough for your home and climate.

You can buy pipe insulation materials in your local hardware store or in major home improvement stores. You can also shop for insulation online, where you may be able to more easily buy in bulk. When shopping, make sure you know your pipe's dimensions so you can buy the correct size of pipe insulation materials for your pipes.

Unless your cellulose insulation is wet, moldy, or showing signs of mildew or pests, there’s no need to remove it before adding new insulation on top of it. Inspect your insulation thoroughly before adding the new insulation, and if you’re unsure how to assess the presence of mold or mildew, talk to a mold remediation specialist near you.
