"We enjoyed working with Charles very much! From our first talks you could see and feel the passion he has for what he does. We talked about what we wanted done, Charles listened and offered his advise. He was right there every time we called him with questions and what nots. Charles and his crew were there on time every day! (That was heaven). He will go with you to help pick out the right product for your job. We were out of town for the most part of this renovation, Charles would stay in constant contact with us talking on the phone, sending pictures, we really appreciated this! We would talk with Charles and tell him of something that we thought of and wanted him to do, (which was not part of the work order), Charles would just smile and say “okay, I can do that”. His patients, understanding and knowledge is amazing! We have also had Charles do a remodel of the kitchen and bathrooms of our other condo as well. We love the work that he did, we have fallen in love with our home all over again! I would love to add pictures but it won’t let me, so sad We enjoyed working with Charles very much! "Cisco and his team were extremely professional and performed interior design/remodeling work for my brand new home a few weeks back. They build a custom made stacked stone wall for my main living room, wainscoting throughout the entire house and some great trim work as well. Cisco's team was professional, had great craftsmanship and were very punctual with all work requests. I would hire Cisco and his team again in a heartbeat and recommend all interested parties to contact A2Z for your custom interior work needs."

"We were totally satisfied with our kitchen remodel. Manuel and the US Regional Group crew worked with me to make sure I could save the parts of the kitchen we wanted to keep, and replace what we wanted to. Manuel did job site visits to follow up with the crew on several occasions in order to keep us updated on what was worth keeping or trash, that allowed us to stay within budget and receive a result we were happy with. The craftsmanship was excellent. Manuel has also come out to follow up as needed since the kitchen has been completed."

"Briggs and his nephew did extremely great job installing a kitchenette in my lower level basement area/adding recessed lighting and a few other projects we requested. From plumbing to electrical and sheet rocking plus painting everything came out very beautiful. Briggs made my family very comfortable throughout the entire process and we are very pleased with the outcome and will definitely used Briggs for any future projects."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Any bowing in a basement wall indicates a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time for an inspection. Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness (around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick wall) before it becomes an urgent situation. Bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches, which will require significant repairs. If the bowing is more than 6 inches, the wall will likely need to be replaced. The sooner you address the problem, the easier and less expensive the repair will be.

Yes, you can install a summer kitchen or kitchenette in your basement. They serve similar purposes as outdoor kitchens, keeping the main floor of the house cool and providing another space to cook and congregate. Basement kitchens are also a worthwhile alternative for homeowners without much space in the backyard. They come with a few logistical questions to sort out, though, like ventilation and waterproofing.

The average cost to remodel a basement is between $12,100 and $33,400. Depending on the project's complexity, the price can be as low as $3,500 or exceed $50,200. For a simple project like adding a home office, you might spend between $500 and $3,000. However, a more extensive project, such as adding a bathroom, can range from $6,600 to $16,500. The final cost is influenced by factors like the basement's size and condition, the type of remodel, material choices, your location, and accessibility. For an accurate price, it's best to consult with a basement remodeling team.

A finished basement does not always count as square footage, as this varies by state regulations. In areas that allow below-grade spaces to be included in a home's official square footage, the basement must typically meet certain conditions. These conditions often include having a functional egress and being a livable space with flooring, finished walls, and temperature control. To be certain, contact your local assessor to confirm your area's specific policies regarding basement square footage.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.
