If you’re storing a refrigerator in an unheated space, appliance manufacturers recommend removing all food and items and keeping it unplugged. Additionally, make sure there is no water supply and the icemaker is set to off. After cleaning the interior, you can place a box of baking soda inside and keep the doors propped open so no mold or mildew grows.
If you move your fridge upright, you can turn it on right away without letting it settle. If the fridge was laying down during transport, check its manual to find out how long you should let it settle before turning it on again. Usually, it’s safest to wait about 24 hours. If you don’t allow the refrigerant and compressor oil to settle, you may end up needing refrigerator repair.
Use a damp toothbrush or soft cloth to brush the coils gently. If the food particles are gone, but there are still brown stains on your toaster, make a mixture of baking soda and water and apply it to the marks. After five minutes, scrub it away with the cloth or toothbrush.
