"It all went very well! The product is good, the work/installation was good. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good company that will take care of you. However, there is always room for improvement I think that the sales people need a little more training in what is available, and I wish I was a bit more informed about where my project stood while we where waiting for the product to come in."

"We were very happy with them and the guarantees that they provide. They did a wonderful job and we are very happy. They cleaned up afterwards. They were really good. They weren't the lowest, but we were satisfied with the price and the 10 year warranty. We weren't just looking for price. You can get cheaper, but there's no warranties."

Emergency services offered

"I originally hired Emo to repair a large outdoor deck.  After meeting with him at my house and looking over the deck in detail, it was obvious the whole deck needed to be replaced (it was falling apart).  This was a big job and I was concerned it might be more than Emo and his crew would be able to do.  Boy was I wrong.  Emo had a crew at the house the next day and they went right to work demolishing and removing the deck.  They showed up on time every day and worked hard.  The new deck is extremely well built, and at Emo's suggestion many cosmetic improvement were added that make it look better than ever (low voltage deck lighting, renovated pillars and trellises, well built trap doors to reach the crawl space).
I had such a good experience with him I hired him to make many other repairs around my house (built in 1935).  He and his workers repaired plaster, painted interior walls, painted the entire exterior of the house, removed repaired and painted 20 shutters, repaired roof leaks, installed ceramic tile, restored woodwork, renovated the laundry room, rebuilt an outside gate, replaced three windows, and cleared out and insulated an outside air handler storage space.
It was a pleasure working with Emo. He had many, many great ideas for improvements and finishing touches.  His work is extremely detailed. His prices were very fair.  He always arrived on time and if for some reason he was not coming a certain day, he always let me know ahead of time.  He and his crew were always polite and a pleasure to have in my house.  As a result of all his hard work, my house looks better than it ever has in the 14 years I've owned it.  I would hire him again in a minute.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

A skylight's ability to withstand hail depends on factors like material quality and thickness. Impact-resistant options, such as tempered or laminated glass, fare better against hail compared to standard glass. Proper installation and regular maintenance also contribute to their resilience. While smaller hailstones may not pose a significant threat, larger ones can cause damage. Consider skylight protection methods like covers or screens in hail-prone areas to enhance durability and minimize potential harm.

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.

Pros of installing a skylight include the fact that you will get much more natural light in your home, skylights can make your room look bigger than it actually is, and your home may increase in value. Cons include difficult upkeep (you may have to get on a ladder to clean and maintain them), higher installation costs, and, potentially, too much heat gain from all the extra sunlight.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
