"We were very happy with them and the guarantees that they provide. They did a wonderful job and we are very happy. They cleaned up afterwards. They were really good. They weren't the lowest, but we were satisfied with the price and the 10 year warranty. We weren't just looking for price. You can get cheaper, but there's no warranties."

"The project started out as just building a new wood deck with railing. Then I told Emo I wanted. 10' by 2' shelf under the deck next to the jacuzzi structure for my cats to be able to escape bad weather. I wanted them protected and off the ground. The dirt ground was already covered with rock and I wanted the top deck slates to have some sort of caulking so the water would not drip thru to the shelf underneath. I expected to get grief for doing this, but Emo thought it was a great idea and carefully followed my directions. Of course once you start one project it leads to another. The deck is attached to the jacuzzi structure and Emo noticed that the wood columns supporting the gazebo were rotting. When he removed the wood it disclosed a steel post that had rusted totally thru at the bottom lending no support to the roof of gazebo. We figured the other 3 supports must also be in bad shape. He then replaced those and suggested we add two more for better support. Their work was exceptional and all our demands were met and their suggestions were professional and improved the total outcome. He and his crew were easy to work with as I only speak English and have trouble understanding Latinos. We will definitely hire them for our next job.

"They were on time and carried out the work in one day. We had several screens to replace. They did a very nice job. However, I had to call them back to reposition the gutter extension that they had to remove to properly install some of the screens. They had not reinstalled it properly. They came back the following day and reinstalled it properly. They apologized for the improper installation. They were professional. I would use them again and recommend them. The owner is very good.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Water will leak through a skylight if there are issues in the sealing of the skylight. Find and fix those issues yourself if possible, but it’s a good idea to contact a professional, as there could be much more water damage than you initially saw. Plus, it’s dangerous to work on a roof without the proper safety equipment and know-how.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.

A skylight's ability to withstand hail depends on factors like material quality and thickness. Impact-resistant options, such as tempered or laminated glass, fare better against hail compared to standard glass. Proper installation and regular maintenance also contribute to their resilience. While smaller hailstones may not pose a significant threat, larger ones can cause damage. Consider skylight protection methods like covers or screens in hail-prone areas to enhance durability and minimize potential harm.
