Customers say: Super punctual

"My husband and I contacted Kitchen Crafters after reading the great reviews on Angie's List. We wanted to redo all of the floors throughout the common areas of the house, update the powder bathroom and laundry room, and fully renovate the kitchen. Initially, we thought we would go with Home Depot or Lowe's, but after meeting with Jim for our first consultation, there was no doubt that Kitchen Crafters was the way to go. During our design meetings, Jim listened to our ideas and pictures we brought along that we liked. Jim has so much experience in the industry and came up with so many ideas that my husband and I would have never thought of without his help. It was really fun and easy to design our kitchen with Jim's help. He took us through each step of the design process and made sure that no stone was left unturned. We were also pleasantly surprised when Jim called us to see if we could start on the project much earlier than expected. When it came time to start the job, Jim worked with us to create a schedule that worked for us. We were open to having work done on evenings and weekends, which made the project go by even faster. It is very clear that Jim puts in careful planning and consideration with the scheduling of the jobs to ensure that there are no delays once the job begins. Throughout the entire process, Jim and his crew were professional, friendly, and completed amazing work. The crew was always very punctual and cleaned up after each and every day. Halfway through the project, Hurricane Irma made her way into Florida. The day after the storm (Tuesday), Jim and his crew were back to work and making up for the storm delays. As with any project, new things and changes can come up. Anytime we had an adjustment or change we wanted to make, Jim was always flexible and very accommodating. The only issue that occurred with our project was the incorrect color of the grout on our newly installed tile flooring. Through no fault of Kitchen Crafters, when the grout cured on the floor, the color was drastically different than the sample provided by the grout company. Jim went out of his way to contact the company and lobbied on our behalf to have the problem corrected. Jim partnered with the grout company to fix the problem at no additional cost to us. My husband and I cannot recommend Jim and Kitchen Crafters enough. Throughout the entire project, Jim and his crew were extremely nice and friendly and such a pleasure to work with. We felt like they were part of the family as we were going through the project together. We couldn't believe how quickly the project was finished, even with the hurricane delay. We are so thankful and happy that we found Jim and Kitchen Crafters. We absolutely love our "new home" and give them the highest recommendation! We will absolutely be using Kitchen Crafters in the future for any other remodel/renovation projects."

"Overall we are very pleased with the results. Donny Daugherty, our salesman and job manager, was very professional, responsive and easy to work with. He had ideas on how to deal with the grade of the backyard when others did not. We had to coordinate the delivery of a hot tub and associated electrical so the job was a little more than just a patio, but Donny was always flexible. The slightly lower score on punctuality and professionalism is due to the concrete subcontractor, Tad. He's team did a good job and we are very pleased with the result, including modifications in design that he suggested but his approach was a bit surly and his communication was lacking on when he was going to show up. Since he has a face to the customer, while not horrible, it was not pleasant dealing with him directly. He is very good at his job, but did not represent the company well when dealing directly with the customer."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Yes, a 12-inch countertop overhang will need support to keep it stable. The exact type of support depends on your countertop thickness and material. Thicker, heavier countertops need extra support, like a corbel or a post, to keep them from sagging or toppling over.

When installing an undermount kitchen sink in a granite countertop, use 100% silicone to secure the basin. If you’re worried your sink is too heavy, speak with a countertop professional about how to adhere the sink to the countertop without worrying about issues down the road. Sagging undermount sinks can be a common plumbing problem if they’re not properly adhered, so always make sure you’re using a high-quality material.

The best way to save money on countertop installation is to choose an affordable material. For example, if you have a busy kitchen and need durability, choose a more affordable but lasting material like granite countertops. Likewise, if you don't use your countertops often, you can use a softer material that costs less than more sturdy ones.

Another way to cut costs is to remove and dispose of the existing countertops yourself, if possible. That way, countertop installers can get straight to placing the new feature, reducing labor costs.

Small kitchens benefit from simple, blunt countertop edges, as complicated edges can create visual clutter and be more of a hazard if you bump into them. Eased edges are a top pick for small kitchens because they are simple, do not jut out, and do not take up additional space. Bullnose edge countertops are also popular because of their rounded design; they are elegantly simple and will not be sharp when you bump against them. Single-beveled edges are also a good choice, as they look a little more upscale but still have rounded edges for safety and simplicity.

Baking soda can damage some countertops, but it makes an excellent mild abrasive for removing stains on other countertops. For example, never use baking soda on quartz or glass countertops, but you can use it on laminate and tile. Stay away from using it on quartz because it can scratch and damage the counter, and glass is prone to scratches. Since baking soda is a mild abrasive, you can only use it on certain surfaces.
