"Drywall Textures by DP handled repairs to the drywall on both walls and ceilings throughout our home. The newly retextured areas blended perfectly into the existing ceilings. The team was excellent, arriving on time, explaining what needed to be done and finishing all the work on schedule, over three days. They covered the interior of the house with plastic to protect our furniture and keep our floors clean. They also stripped the wallpaper from one of our bathrooms. They did a great job of cleaning up after their work was complete. We would hire them again without hesitation and recommend them to others."

"Whitman and his helper arrived on time and ready to work. Had a Guest bathroom to repair drywall to one wall and ceiling. Paint whole bathroom two colors.Repaired, textured ceiling, showed me options decided on knockdown. Painted the ceiling and also the drop ceiling in the shower area. Matched paint and painted the room. They worked hard and had the whole project done in one day. All materials were supplied, and they were within budget. Strongly recommend WL Property Service and will hire him and his team for future painting and drywall needs. If I could give him a 10 and two thumbs up I would."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Yes, to build a retaining wall, a permit is required. Similarly, any repairs or modifications to an existing retaining wall require permits. If the planned wall measures higher than 4 feet, most municipalities require designs and permits come through a licensed engineer. In some locations, if the wall is shorter than 4 feet, a permit may not be required. For the requirements in your area, contact your local government.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.
