"Kevin did an awesome job! He is professional, kind and pays attention to detail. He repaired some drywall areas that resulted from roof leaks. He also did paint touchup on the walls and he weatherized my storm door. I will use him again"

"I am extremely pleased with the work that Danny and his family did for me. Removed popcorn in our two story house and 2 large garages and replaced with knockdown, repaired a closet and a wall downstairs that was completely damaged by a recent hurricane and it turned out beautiful.Their work is amazing and the clean up they do afterwards is phenomenal. I am so happy with the completed job. The timeframe in which they completed the project was top notch. Highly recommend them ."

"This is an update to a previous review. Whit saw my previous review that was a good review but not a 5.0 because of some minor patchwork is done. He called and responded immediately to correct the slight imperfections, had to repaint 3 walls to ensure uniform paint job between new patchwork and previously painted wall. Plus, he repaired an old patch that we were unaware of. Additionally, he painted the door trim that was not in the contract. Thank you so much Whitman!"

"The BestcBathroom Remodel! From start to finish, Ron kept me informed of the process. His team finished the bathroom remodel in 2 1/2 weeks. This was a big demo with a complete renovation of tub, tile flooring and removal of a wall partition. Ron sent me a quote within 3 days of my request, and had a contract ready when I agreed with the quote. I wish I could submit photos of the before and after, you will be amazed. Check out his website, or ask him for pictures. The tile team was very professional, cleaned up their space every day and have the best work ethic I have ever seen. I highly recommend Ron and his team for any job big or small!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

DIY is possible for small projects. Professional installation ensures structural integrity and durability for larger walls.
