"We ordered a 15 yd dumpster after doing our due diligence with different companies and offerings, this was the best fit for our needs. We were tasked with cleaning out my mother’s home of over 30 yrs. Herman and his team delivered on time, protected the driveway and allowed us extra time to keep detrashing to ready the house for sale. Those extra days were without additional fees! He also answered my questions while on vacation and his driver checked in periodically to see how we were doing. This was not my first rodeo with this type of equipment rental and by far this was the most agreeable and concerned provider I’ve worked with. I highly recommend Herman’s Dumpsters, plus everyone loved his logo!!"

"Boris was amazing! He made scheduling a breeze and was here within 24hours. I had a pretty big haul which he knocked out in 30 mins. It also included a king mattress that he brought from downstairs to toss. Couldn’t recommend someone more. We will definitely use his services again!"

Dumpster Service questions, answered by experts

You should consider hiring professional movers for moves that seem too daunting, dangerous, or involve large, heavy objects. The larger your home and the longer the distance, the more likely you are to need professional help. A moving service can take the hardest tasks off your plate and reduce the risk of personal injury. However, if you are only moving a few light items, you can save money by moving on your own and renting a truck. Keep in mind that a DIY move requires significant planning and time. A hybrid option is also available, where you hire movers just to lift and transport heavy items to your vehicle.

The most affordable way to get rid of junk often involves a do-it-yourself approach, especially if you don't have a large amount of debris. Start by sorting your items into categories: donate, recycle, sell, or trash.

  • Donate or Sell: Usable goods can be donated to local charities. You can also list items for free or for a low price on platforms like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

  • Use Municipal Services: Your city's regular garbage collection or bulk pickup days can be the cheapest option. However, be sure to check community guidelines for quantity limits and accepted materials. You can also take recyclables to a city drop-off center.

  • Haul it Yourself: If you have a truck or suitable vehicle, loading the junk and taking it to a local transfer station, public dump, or waste disposal facility is a very cost-effective method.

If a DIY approach isn't possible, consider these options:

  • Rent a Dumpster: You can rent a dumpster, fill it yourself, and the rental company will haul it away. This is a good middle-ground if you can do the labor but don't have a vehicle for transport.

  • Hire a Junk Removal Service: While typically the most expensive choice, hiring a professional junk removal team is the most time-efficient and requires the least effort from you. This is a good solution if your city's services won't accept the items or if you are unable to move them yourself.

To get the most out of your dumpster rental, regardless of its placement, you should review what you can put in it and strategically organize your disposal. For instance, putting large items on the bottom helps you save space when it comes to the little stuff at the end of the project.

Clear driveway space, ensure unobstructed pathways, and cover surfaces beneath. Noise and traffic considerations matter in residential areas.

Most municipalities allow dumpsters with proper permitting to sit on the street for up to a month, but you might need to file for extensions throughout that time to maintain your permit. You should always check with your local building department and your HOA if you’re a part of one to make sure you avoid fines.
