"The project started out as just building a new wood deck with railing. Then I told Emo I wanted. 10' by 2' shelf under the deck next to the jacuzzi structure for my cats to be able to escape bad weather. I wanted them protected and off the ground. The dirt ground was already covered with rock and I wanted the top deck slates to have some sort of caulking so the water would not drip thru to the shelf underneath. I expected to get grief for doing this, but Emo thought it was a great idea and carefully followed my directions. Of course once you start one project it leads to another. The deck is attached to the jacuzzi structure and Emo noticed that the wood columns supporting the gazebo were rotting. When he removed the wood it disclosed a steel post that had rusted totally thru at the bottom lending no support to the roof of gazebo. We figured the other 3 supports must also be in bad shape. He then replaced those and suggested we add two more for better support. Their work was exceptional and all our demands were met and their suggestions were professional and improved the total outcome. He and his crew were easy to work with as I only speak English and have trouble understanding Latinos. We will definitely hire them for our next job.

"Prior to my signing the contract, they made several on-time and as-scheduled visits to my home to provide samples of their materials and photos.  The workers arrived early and left late working diligently to make sure I was satisfied with their work product.  This was a small but very detailed project which caused some tedious obstacles.  Their foreman, George, bent over backwards to solve my picky issues.  After the patio was completed, Ozzie even delivered an extra tube of the special caulk at my request.  Their work was divided into two contracts -- one for the patio and one for rolling shutters on all my doors and windows and was handled by different crews.  I would recommend their work without reservation.

I have dealt with many contractors in the past and think McKenzie did a great job of both working with me throughout the way and exceeding my expectations. The most frustrating part about working with contractors in Miami is the "bait and switch" routine that many often practice. When receiving bids for my past projects, I was attracted to the lower bids and couldn't understand why others were so high. After dealing with the lower priced contractors, I learned my lesson by realizing that many masked their high prices in "change orders" throughout the span of the project. So in the end, a lower priced contractor ended up costing more than a higher bid. When I first inquired about my most recent project, Gavin McKenzie, the owner, and his assistant came to my house and did a primary walk through to discuss the work needed to be done. He is a great listener and made me feel comfortable about his ability to complete the project according to the way I wanted it done. Within one week, as promised, he submitted a professional proposal to me that contained references, a company background, an estimated time line, and the costs of the project. When they began work, his employees were all in clean uniforms, and immediately covered their work areas with paper and tarps. Having my house demolished was a little overwhelming and Gavin put me at ease by telling me the loud noises and mess were only temporary. After they completed the demolition, they began to prep the kitchen, floors, and bathrooms for the installation of the new sinks, tiling, showers, and floors. I was happy that everything was going according to schedule and was always able to reach Gavin with my questions. The employees showed up everyday and were respectful of my home. They were all polite and kept everything clean. In the end, the McKenzie team and I walked through the house and did some fine tuning and minor detail touch ups where needed. I am very impressed with this company and their caliber of professional service and workmanship. I got exactly what I paid for and believe that McKenzie really delivers a special product that is unusual to the Miami marketplace."
