"We had hired a contractor to remodel our master bathroom. He sent a man who worked for 6 days demolishing the room, removing a doorway and installing a new bathroom door entrance. After 6 days we never saw him again. At the recommendation of a local realtor, we then hired Mario Melendez to finish the job, which would include installing cement board in shower area, tiling shower area, installing shower head, etc. and the toilet and finish details. He brought Luis who worked for 2 days in the shower area putting up cement board, tiling half of the walls, and cementing a new shower floor. (We have since found out that some of the work was not done correctly, necessitating another demo.) The man had a heart attack and we did not see him again. A job that Mario first told us would take 2 - 3 days was stretched to 27 days, during which time Mario made an appearance on maybe 8 - 10 days sometimes only for an hour or two. He told us about 2 tilers whom he said would finish the job, but they never showed. We last saw Mario Melendez on Feb. 11. He was here for about 1 hr. that day. We had paid him amount listed below. Photo shows what the bathroom looked like when he left."

"I needed a spot repair on a carport roof. Major roofing companies took a look and wanted to charge up to $12,500 to replace the entire roof. Once I stopped laughing, I contacted Jorge. He responded quickly and drove nearly an hour south from his home base. I appreciated the detailed evaluation with a reasonable tag of $975. I also was impressed that he didn't push extras on me. My mechanic calls those the dreaded add-ons. In fact, I thought I needed tile replacement on my main roof but Jorge emphasized that it wasn't necessary...merely cosmetic. After Hurricane Dorian thoughtfully bypassed the area, Bani and Evan comprised the work crew. They clearly enjoyed their job and talked me through the process, while saying they do projects for Jorge stretching from Homestead to Port St. Lucie. Many companies here in Miami have owners who speak perfect English but then the work crew speaks little to no English. That can be problematic, if unexpected little matters need attention but with a language gap. Often I have to summon my neighbor to translate. I loved that it was not a difficulty here. Bani is from Mexico but told me he quickly realized a need to become bilingual for this profession. They did a great job. The damage underneath was worse than I realized. Along with the spot fix they also flashed the siding to help with my drainage situation. Once the roof was mended I had new gutters installed the next day. Thank you Jorge, Bani and Evan. Much appreciated and recommended company."

"It's not common to find such a good service and high-quality product. As an Interior Architect, I have purchased thin veneer Chicago bricks for Pizza Ovens with outstanding results. Laszlo went out of his way to explain the best way to insulate the ovens and use heat-resistant mortar."

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

In the right conditions, a steel roof can easily last 50 years or more. However, your environment and maintenance play a large role in the lifespan of a steel roof. For example, if you live under a large tree that frequently drops limbs, your roof will last much less time. Metal roofs near the sea degrade faster as well due to salt in the air.

Installing a metal roof will rarely affect your homeowner’s insurance policy in a negative way, and you might even get a discount on your premium for installing one, depending on your area. Metal roofs can reduce the risk of structural damage from heavy snow, and they stand up better to strong winds and impact, so homeowners in areas that see excessive snowfall or extreme weather may see savings on insurance premiums after installing a metal roof.

Yes, a drip edge is necessary on a metal roof, according to the International Residential Code (IRC). Drip edge flashing prevents water from dripping onto and behind your fascia board, which prevents the board from rotting and reduces the risk of water damage behind it. On gable ends, you can either install drip edge flashing or gable-end flashing to avoid the same issues.

While it’s less common than on other kinds of roofs, yes, ice dams can form on metal roofs. Metal roofs, particularly those with snow guards installed, can still accumulate ice at the roof edge, although ice dams on metal roofs are less likely to cause roof or interior damage than on traditional asphalt shingle roofs.

Asphalt shingle roofs are more likely to leak than metal roofs because they are more prone to uplift and damage from extreme weather, moss growth, and ice dams. Asphalt shingles also lose shingle grit over time, which decreases their waterproofing qualities. Metal is a more resilient material that will stand up better to strong winds and heavy precipitation, ultimately leading to a lower risk of leaking. As such, metal roofs add to home value with a higher ROI than asphalt roofs in most cases.
