"Changed out almost every light switch and wall socket, hung ceiling fan & installed new bathroom exhaust fans. New ballasts for the flourescent lights in the kitchen and bath. Disconnected electric connection to a garbage disposal that I later had removed. I still have a few things to do, and will be contacting Elcon again when I'm ready to proceed, since I am happy with their service. I used another company a year or so ago that outrageously overcharged, and I have to say I prefer Elcon's by-the-hour pricing to those by-the-job ripoffs."

"We contacted Rodrigo after finding his information on Angie's List. We were looking to install an electrical outlet in our garage for a refrigerator and install an outdoor fan. Rodrigo came out to our house and took a look at the work that needed to be done. He explained to us exactly what we needed and how it should be done properly. He easily could have taken shortcuts with this job, but insisted that we needed a dedicated circuit in order to ensure that the work was safe and to code. Within a day or two, Rodrigo emailed us a reasonable quote.
We scheduled the work for a day that was convenient for us. Rodrigo arrived and completed the work in a timely manner, and everything works great.
In a town where honest and reliable service is hard to find, Rodrigo was a pleasure to work with. We've already recommended him to a friend, and would definitely contact him again if we need any additional work done at our home.

"Fernando from Electrical Solutions was very polite and thorough. He explained everything that needed to be done and what the costs on the estimate entailed. Considering he had to drill through a concrete ceiling (among other difficult tasks), the amount he charged was definitely reasonable for the amount of work, and still much lower than another estimate I had gotten from someone else. I will definitely use this company again for other projects and I highly recommend them to others."

"They were professional and spent the time to discuss the plan of the project in advance. The project consisted of a security system, electrical repairs inside, and installed a fan. Most was done at one time. There was an issue with the existing electrical. They figured out the issue and stayed to fix it until everything was done. They were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about my older home. I would definitely use them again and will gladly recommend them to others."

"Dave showed up on time, evaluated what we needed to install the swings on the porch and went to Home Depot and purchased the hardware. It took him a couple of hours to do the job and upon completion he showed the receipt for Home Depot and my wife was happy."

"He did drywall on my ceiling and he did a good job. He still had an hour left of time so I asked him to put up the ceiling fan that they had to remove for the drywall work and he couldn't do it. He couldn't get the blades back on the ceiling fan or assemble it so I asked him to put up a brand new Hunter Ceiling fan I had purchased that was a complete box set. It had all the parts needed but he kept saying we needed other parts or some parts didn't fit. He didn't know what he was doing. After he left I tried to assemble the one that was removed before and was able to get it assembled. He did good drywall work and I would hire him again for that but not for ceiling fan installation."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

There’s no reason why you can’t install a ceiling fan anywhere in your home, such as in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, and dining areas. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan. For safety purposes, avoid installing a ceiling fan where the blades will be less than eight feet from the floor, near bunk beds, or anywhere else they may hit nearby objects.

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.
