Small jobs welcome

"My house entry door had long-standing wood rot in several places. I decided I'd better get a professional to fix that. I called Scott Purvis based on his homeadvisor.com ratings. Scott came over right away, looked at the door and made some suggestions as to how he would fix the door. I liked the plan, and hired him. Scott's work was excellent, he kept me advised all along the way and I am very pleased with the door as it is now."

"South East Custom Construction is fantastic. They did a wonderful job on my front porch. The screens were replaced and look good as new. They also installed a cat door on my screen door. They were professional and very friendly. I would absolutely use them again in the future."

"This guy is a perfectionist. Work requested was completed within 8 hrs. The handrail had to be mitered cut, sanded and painted the same color as the other handrail. The new handrail perfectly matches the one that was installed by the builder."

"Measure Twice , Install once ....but something went a miss . My two large windows with the arches at the top came in two inches too large and a small bathroom window came in but wasn't frosted . Over all , I am 100% satisfied with these beautiful windows and more over the cost savings anticipated in my cooling and heating bills. My old windows were Builder Grade metal framed thermo glass but were so poorly installed that the dirt blew in when closed and Ant's had filled the tracts. I found the the ECO-VIEW windows to be comparable to $700 per unit ( Low-E ) custom made window at a fraction of the cost with Installation . My A/C doesn't run nearly as often and the house now feels chilly with the Thermostat set at 78 degrees . A special shout out to " BARB " my Saleswoman . Her winning smile and confidence could help her sell Ice Cubes to Eskimos . I am looking forward now to replacing my 8' Triple Tract Patio Slider with a set of beautiful French doors with Side Lite Glass. My installers ( Andre & Trace ) were terrific. After installing they went around and touched up caulking with my exterior and interior left over paints . The house and yard were left spotless .... Again thank you for a GREAT EXPERIENCE . ( SALES & SERVICE ) ."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Yes, you need to install a sill for an exterior door. A sill offers structural support for the doorframe and creates a place to install the threshold, which is essential for keeping water from seeping underneath the door and into the home. Door sills are not necessary for interior doors.

While doggie doors are convenient for pet owners, they do offer a few drawbacks. For instance, they’re small enough that unwanted critters could come into the house, such as raccoons, snakes, rats, and insects.

They’re also large enough that small children can escape through them, which can be a serious concern to parents of young children.

Finally, doggie doors can make it difficult to regulate your home’s temperature because they constantly let in hot or cold outside air.

The lock block will either be built-in on the side of the door or run from the top to the bottom. Usually, there is a marking that indicates its location. You can also tap the door with the back of a screwdriver to find the lock block like you would find a stud in a wall.

You can use any wood to make an interior door, provided it’s the right thickness. Common options for painted doors include pine or poplar for the stiles, rails, and mullions, and paint-grade plywood for the panels. You can also opt to make your own panels out of pine or poplar if you intend on staining the door instead. Opting for oak, maple, or another hardwood is another great option for a high-end door that will last for decades, but the wood will cost significantly more.

Most slab doors do not have hinge cutouts, making them a complete blank slate. You will have to measure and cut the mortises yourself. You can order a slab door from a home improvement store and ask them to make the cuts, although you still have to take the measurements independently.
