"After having some exterior siding replaced, I was looking for a company willing to try to match the paint so that I could just paint the new siding - not the entire house. Some companies told me it couldn't be done. Superior Painting did not try to upsell me and said that matching the paint could easily be done. After hiring them to pressure wash my entire townhouse, Scott did a great job painting. It's impossible to tell the old paint from the new paint. It matched perfectly. Marshall, Scott, and the two guys who pressure washed were all kind and professional. I will use them again for some additional work and would highly recommend them."

"We hired them at first for a small project repairing two doors to our pool enclosure (damaged in last year's storm). They did such a good job, promptly, that we then asked them to fix a vintage heart pine house door and screen door. Eventually, they repaired or replaced eight very different doors in our house (which is unusual because it was custom built by an earlier owner). Also, repaired and painted the old wooden stairs from the house to the pool house. For years we have been frustrated by these doors, and have had a succession of people who "fixed" something, or half-fixed it, and then left and stopped answering our calls. But "Wakulla's Finest" lived up to their name. They (and in particular William, their chief carpenter) did a superb, professional job---or rather, eight different superb professional jobs. Plus, they are just nice guys."

Painting questions, answered by experts

There’s no single paint that’s the most waterproof. Instead, there are several types of waterproof and water-resistant paints that suit different purposes. Epoxy paint, for instance, is commonly used to provide a waterproof coating to floors and decks. Masonry paint is an excellent choice for exterior walls. Meanwhile, there are waterproof acrylic paints that can be used for interior and exterior walls. It’s more about choosing the best type for what you’re painting instead of the most waterproof paint overall.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

If your cedar fence is new, don’t delay. Unlike treated pine, you don’t need to wait months for the wood to dry out for it to accept stain. With cedar, the sooner, the better. Seal cedar within two weeks of installation to prevent the sun from fading its red color.
