"Company only interested in the demo portion IF we did the entire job using their company, and their cabinets. Would not consider using cabinets of my choice. Tammy was able to direct me to a contractor that would do just the demo/drywall portion of this job."

Small jobs welcome

"They fixed every thing that needed maintenance and fixing, Including a new jam around the workshop door that had rotted, repaired several cracks in the house ceilings, installed new tile pieces that had cracked in several rooms. They were very professional and always on time and the quality of work was the best. I would hire them again. Thank you."

"

We wanted to remodel our newly purchased condo but didn't think we'd be able to afford all the projects we had in mind because of the limitations of our budget. A couple of local contractors in Gulf Shores had estimated a minimum cost of $40,000. We contacted Help-Around-the-House based on favorable Angie's List reviews and found that they more than live up to their great reputation. Dan Parks and his team worked closely with us from start to finish, not only helping us to stay within our budget but also coming up with ideas that were better than what we originally had in mind. All of the work was of high quality, yet it was done amazing fast.  We couldn't be more satisfied with the final result.  We definitely recommend Dan Parks and the Help-Around-the-House team to anyone who wants high quality work done at a fair price.

".I contacted the company and waited 3 or 4 days for a call back and had to call back a second time to talk to someone. This was early Aug. of 2011. I had to call again for a follow up on the appt. to even look at the problem. The owner was 2 hrs late for the appt. He could not crawl on the roof because of leg problems but did not bring anyone with him that could get on the roof at that time to give us an idea of the problem. I waited 2 wks for a proposal to be sent by email of the problems and the cost. It was sent to the wrong email. We had a second look at the problem to go over the proposal and he was 1 hr. late for that appt. First of Sept. called the owner to see if work had been done and left a message. By Sept. 23rd still no word if work was done. Since this was our vacation home we had not been there to witness the work. Sept . 28th the company called me to see if we were going to pay our bill and I had to tell them I had not received a bill or even knew if the work was completed or not. They again had sent the invoice to the wrong email address. They called again on Oct. 3rd to make sure they would receive their payment. They were eager to call to see about payment but not to return my calls concerning the work itself. So now it is July of 2012 and we were at our beach house and saw where the roof was leaking again. I have called 4 times and left messages and no one has returned my call. My husband had to get on the roof and try to repair the leak himself. I would not recommend this company to anyone."

Hurricane Shutters questions, answered by experts

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.
