"Joe showed up at the correct time and quoted a price for the job. After going to the store to buy the appropriately colored sink, he did a fine job of removing the old one and installing the new one. Instead of using a cheap, porcelain-coated steel sink he used a higher quality ceramic one. He also replaced the water inlets with nice braided lines. Joe is a friendly easygoing man whom I would definitely recommend.

"I got to tell ya, about a year ago, Tom from Progressive Pump came out and sold me a brand new pump and installed it. The ground here is sorta funny so he had trouble with the well and pump but in the end he did an excellent job and although there is a problem with this pump continually loosing it's prime. My yard is about half dead so I went out to turn the pump on and again, no prime, no water. When the Technician Justin got here he got started right away. He was very professional throughout. Justin diagnosed the problem quickly and set about fixing bad parts and changing solenoids. He also noticed that Tom had hooked up the pump to the water tank incorrectly so Justin took the time to correct and install the hoses and metal parts to correct and make the water tank and rust chemicals and fertilizer work. Looks like Tom could learn a few things from Justin! I just can't say enough nice things about Justin. He is a very professional, well spoken, delightful young man that has an expansive knowledge of things and has a niche for getting things done the right way! I think Justin has a bright future! Come back for the trees Justin!

"I called Mike, he scheduled promptly and arrived on the date and time he stated punctually. He had given a rough estimate by phone and confirmed the work in person. He also repaired sprinkler heads. He took his time with integrity & due diligence in his work. Completed the work within the estimate he provided without trying to upcharge or upsell any products."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Thankfully, you do have a few sump pump backup options in case it fails. One option is a battery-powered backup sump pump. Another option is using a portable backup generator as a power supply for your sump pump. Unlike a battery-powered backup which has limited power, a generator can run around the clock for as long as you need it.

Or you can opt for a water-powered backup pump, which uses your home’s water supply as a source of power. However, this may not be the best option if you find your house frequently has low water pressure.

A water pressure booster doesn't require special maintenance. Like any house system, inspections should be a regular part of your annual schedule. Check for leaks, faulty valves, pressure loss, and mineral build-up. Pressure loss could be a result of mineral build-up, and you can descale the system with a vinegar and water solution.

One common reason a sump pump stops working is improper sizing. Different locations need different sizes and power ratings of sump pumps depending on the typical amount of water the pump needs to manage. If your sump pump is too small for the quantity of water, it can overwork and either burn out or reduce the life of the unit. If the pump is too big, it can overwork and burn out early.

Some sump pumps are powered by water rather than electricity. Water-powered sump pumps generally use one gallon of city water to pump out two gallons of water from its basin. Therefore, if you're looking at a potential 10,000-gallon flood, your sump pump will need to use 5,000 gallons of city water to prevent it.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.
