"Mark Gardner was professional and quick to respond. Mark replaced a door that was leaking water in a bedroom. The price was right and the work was above expectations. He spent extra time making sure the job was done correctly. I would highly recommend you hire his company for your next project."

"Chip has done quite a lot of work here at my house. This ranges from irrigation to flooring to painting, electrical work including installing fans as well as arranging for all new screening in my house tiling front and back porches, and plumbing. I won't trust my house with anybody else but him. He and his wife are an amazing team, and I could not be more impressed with their professionalism. I have called him in over the course of nearly a year now, as my house needs work, and he is marvelous."

"Excellent service and high quality workmanship by Rick. He torn down my collapsed garage ceiling and replaced the drywall using screws tape mud to fill and 1/2 drywall. 5/8 if you request. Sanded and painted. What a difference! Easy to work with and his estimates are fair and highly competitive."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of bathroom tile can be 50 years or more, depending on proper installation and regular maintenance. A well-done tile job, whether it's a new installation or a retiling project, can last for many decades. To lengthen the life of your tile, it's best to have it installed by a professional and to perform regular maintenance. This includes routine cleaning, resealing, and regrouting as needed. With proper care, you can expect your tile to last 10 years or more before needing major repairs or retiling, especially in high-traffic areas where tiles can wear out more quickly.

Glass, ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone are all excellent choices for tiling a shower floor. Some glazed finishes can be slippery when wet. Your tiling contractor can provide more information on which tiles will work best for your shower floor.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.
