"Matt Plymale has helped me with several projects, including the installation and hook up of a bathroom vanity. He gives a fair price, shows up when he says he will and communicates very well. He is meticulous in his work and I will definitely hire him again. His assistant Regis is also an impeccable worker."

"American Made Windows of Central Florida installed a window that had a broken frame, the wrong window altogether in our bathroom (a clear glass window in the bathroom where a frosted glass window was supposed to have been) and never delivered our window screens after being paid in full. All this for a $20k+ contract. I would never recommend this company to anyone. This company is NOT TRUSTWORTHY."

"If I could give a zero I would. Ray is a complete joke. Kept giving excuse after excuse on why he wasn’t showing up. Had to threaten legal action several times. Finally showed up and never completed a few loose ends. I asked him over a period of three months to please come finish. He never showed. I have finally reached out to another company to finish the job. If I could score this a zero I would. I hope people read this and save you from the same mistake I made. Do not do business with this man."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Yes, prehung doors include a door jamb. Prehung doors are sold as a single piece with the door frame already constructed, including the hinges. The only part missing is the trim, which you add after fastening the door. They are more expensive than slab doors but are quicker and easier to install. Prehung doors come in an array of sizes, so there’s likely an option to fit any doorway you need.

Yes, if you’re replacing a door slab, it must be the exact size of your existing door. If your new door is too small, you’ll need to purchase a new door to fit or hire a handyperson to make your frame smaller. Or if it's too big, you’ll need to return it or shave it down to fit.

The L marking on a door closer stands for latch speed and the S marking stands for swing speed. These two letters inform what part of the door closer you may be adjusting. The latch speed being the short final swing the door makes before closing and the swing speed being the long swing of the door when closing.

If you took measurements of the door and can’t find the correct size in the store, you may need a custom-size screen door. Many door manufacturers produce doors fit-to-size using individualized dimensions. Another option, if the door opening is smaller than standard, is to have the door frame opening cut larger to accommodate a standard-sized door.

You will need to cut or break a boomstick so it is wider than the door and long enough to anchor outside the door frame. Extend the broomstick horizontally under the doorknob, ensuring it's snug. Now using long screws and a drill, anchor the broomstick to the wall outside the door frame. Remember that you won't be able to open the door afterward. Do not proceed with this hack if your home has no alternative exit.
