Customers say: Quality work

"I had a great experience with Low Cost Concrete! Terrance came in with the lowest bid by far, which initially concerned me, but he did a great job on my driveway extension, which also included tearing out and replacing a portion of the existing driveway. He was courteous, professional, and flexible with my scheduling needs, and my wife was complimentary about his crew, which was a bonus. We have had work crews at times in the past who were loud or who used "colorful" language, but she said that they were cheerful and respectful, and not disruptive. I will definitely use Terrance again if I have future concrete projects."

"I recently hired Alpha Foundations to lift a column on my residential property, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the entire process was seamless and professional. The team, consisting of Jake, Charles, and Alberto, arrived on time and immediately impressed me with their knowledge and attention to detail. They explained the entire procedure, making sure I was comfortable and knew what was going on every step of the way. The actual lifting process was quick and efficient, they worked well together and knew what they were doing. They worked quickly to ensure the column was perfectly positioned, and answered any questions I had along the way. What truly stood out was their commitment to cleanliness and respect for my property. They took great care to minimize disruption, leaving the area spotless once the job was complete. They definitely went above and beyond to make sure the whole process went perfectly and that I was happy with the results. Overall I couldn't have been any happier with their work. Thanks to Jake, Charles, and Alberto, my column is now secure and stable, and the peace of mind this brings is invaluable. I highly recommend Alpha Foundations for their outstanding service, technical expertise, and dedication to customer satisfaction. If you need foundation repair or concrete lifting, look no further than Alpha Foundations â they truly are the best in the business!"

Concrete Walls questions, answered by experts

Concrete walls last anywhere from 30 to 100 years. In many cases, concrete walls will last longer with proper support and ongoing maintenance. Some concrete foundations, for example, could last up to two centuries when properly maintained. Toward the end of its life span, however, it's critical to have a structural engineer examine the concrete wall for potential signs of decay.

Yes. Foundation walls are always load-bearing.

Yes, you can pour concrete if it rained the day before, but you’ll need to drain the construction site to ensure there isn’t standing water where your slab will sit. You might need to manually remove any puddles and set up drainage on your site to dry it before pouring. Moist soil won’t be an issue, but standing water will throw off your concrete mix ratios. Additionally, ensure there isn’t more rain expected in the near future before you pour.

Any bowing in a basement wall indicates a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time for an inspection. Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness (around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick wall) before it becomes an urgent situation. Bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches, which will require significant repairs. If the bowing is more than 6 inches, the wall will likely need to be replaced. The sooner you address the problem, the easier and less expensive the repair will be.

Unfortunately, concrete cracks happen, so there’s no surefire way to avoid them long-term. To slow down the cracking, apply a sealant every two to three years and use sand rather than salt to melt snow or ice. Using salt speeds up the freeze-thaw cycle, which may increase the likelihood of cracking. Additionally, keep vehicles and heavy machinery off of your concrete, as the weight can lead to more cracking.
