"Working with Alpha Foundations was an exceptionally positive experience from start to finish. The project manager, Joshua, came out to look at our cracking concrete patio, diagnosed the issue, and had a cost-effective solution for us. He also provided all the information we needed to get a quick approval from our HOA. The team that did the work, Tory & Blake, were on time, efficient, and highly skilled. Not only did they stabilize the concrete patio using their foam injection process, they spent a lot of time caulking and smoothing all the cracks (literally on their hands & knees) doing a meticulous job. The process worked so well, it actually lifted one section and eliminated a 1" difference in height so no more trip hazard either. This company clearly invests in a high quality product and skilled professionals. We are very glad we found them."

"Goodfaith Masonry did an excellent job in creating the foundation for our new home. From the digging of the footers, placement of rebar, pouring of concrete (purchased from another company), to the pouring of the slab (they had some excellent experts in the polishing of the slab), and the building of the concrete block walls. Goodfaith was always faithful in working hard, diligently, with expertise, and when I made changes to the project with the architect, they were able to make the changes on par with the code on how to make the changes. Mr. Lee and his guys are awesome, and they will work with you to make your dreams come true (at least the masonry portion)! I'd highly recommend Goodfaith as they have a fair price, always honest with integrity, and their work is spot on!"

Concrete Walls questions, answered by experts

The longevity of flood walls depends on how they were constructed, but most wood, gravel, and cement flood walls last 10 years. While aluminum flood walls may cost far more initially, they can be a good investment as they can last decades and will not be damaged by exposure to the elements.

Do some research before hiring a concrete contractor . Consider asking whether the contractor is insured, if they can provide references of past clients you can contact, and if this type of work requires a permit. Another potential question is how long they guarantee their work.

The actual moisture level that is acceptable for your concrete floor depends on what primer or flooring material you plan to install above it. For this reason, you should check the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact details.

Generally, the moisture levels should be 3.5% to 4.5%, although it does vary. Some products can handle higher levels of moisture, so you should always test your concrete before purchasing your flooring materials.

Yes, you can pour concrete if it rained the day before, but you’ll need to drain the construction site to ensure there isn’t standing water where your slab will sit. You might need to manually remove any puddles and set up drainage on your site to dry it before pouring. Moist soil won’t be an issue, but standing water will throw off your concrete mix ratios. Additionally, ensure there isn’t more rain expected in the near future before you pour.

Unfortunately, concrete cracks happen, so there’s no surefire way to avoid them long-term. To slow down the cracking, apply a sealant every two to three years and use sand rather than salt to melt snow or ice. Using salt speeds up the freeze-thaw cycle, which may increase the likelihood of cracking. Additionally, keep vehicles and heavy machinery off of your concrete, as the weight can lead to more cracking.
