"The service tech who serviced my central air conditioning unit on 7/16/21 was Nick with Florida Home Air Conditioning. Nick was professional and very knowledgeable about what needed to be done. And â ¦ he was respectful and mannerable which I appreciated. If I could, I would request Nick for all of my air conditioning maintenance needs. Regards. A. Brady"

"My husband and I had a wonderful experience with Certified Climate Control. They did an awesome job helping my husband and I understand what was wrong with our AC and what needed to be done to fix it. They went above and beyond to help temporarily fix our AC until the part could be bought and fixed the next day. We were able to sleep in a cooled house and they were out to finish fixing the issue the very next morning as promised. The second visit was even better as Tommy was very knowledgeable about what we were describing was wrong and fixed it right away and finished fixing the problem we had previously. Their customer service and attitude was very friendly and helpful really trying to do the best for us the customer. He really tried to help us financially afford what needed to be fixed without breaking the bank. I believe they went above and beyond to ensure our AC unit was working properly and saving us money on our JEA Bill. I would recommend this company to anyone in need of GREAT, Affordable, and Friendly AC services!"

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

A new HVAC system can increase your home's value by about 5% to 7%, which can translate to an added value of $2,500 to $3,000. The return on investment (ROI) can be around 30%, especially if you upgrade the entire system, including ductwork and insulation. Adding modern features like a smart thermostat can further increase your home’s value by making the heating and cooling systems more efficient and convenient. However, since a new unit can cost $10,000 or more to install, it's important to weigh the upfront cost against the potential increase in home value. For a specific assessment, it's best to consult a local AC installer.

When first installed, flex ducts shouldn’t cause airflow problems in your home. However, because flex ducts aren’t the sturdiest and require extra support, they lose their durability over time and begin to sag, which can inhibit airflow down the road. Also, if your flex ducts aren’t tight enough, your HVAC could work twice as hard for the same air pressure. If you’re worried about the airflow in your home, a rigid duct may be your best bet.

Split systems are the most common type of HVAC system. Split systems have two main units: an indoor one and an outdoor one. These units work together to pull in air, heat or cool it, and distribute it throughout your home. Other popular types of HVAC systems include hybrid systems and packaged heating and air systems.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, or ASHRAE, sets the standard guidelines for air changes per hour in homes and businesses. The International Residential Code, or IRC, also sets ACH requirements for residences and bases those requirements off of ASHRAE standards plus climate specifics related to your location.

Setting your AC unit to 78 degrees can, indeed, help you save energy. In fact, according to experts, every degree you turn the unit up could save you between 1% and 3% on your energy bills. That said, turning your unit off entirely while you’re out might actually be less efficient than keeping it on at a higher temperature. Why? The unit will need to work extra hard to cool the house back off again after all those hot hours.
