"Be warned these people are the sleeziest contractors on the planet. They have numerous nightmare scenarios with failed pools, decking, and leaking. We spent 140k with these people only to have our deck collapsing around our pool. The integrity in their work is non existent and their manager and owner will talk over you like sleezy car salesman trying to convince you it’s all your fault. You will have a nightmare scenario and will most likely need to seek counsel as we have, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of these people."

"We tried them for three years, and each year the particular crew that serviced our landscaping needs kept getting more and more lax on completing a quality job. Finally, we dropped them, and didn't realize what we were missing in good yard-keeping until our current yard crew began doing what we never dreamed was possible. I will try to just mention the things I can prove about Green Works. The most irritating was that they would leave both of our gates open 99 percent of the time. We eventually purchased signs to hang on the gates and showed them to the workers. It worked a couple of weeks, then the dogs starting taking advantage of the gates left open by the crew. This is fact, not personal opinion. Also, while the crew worked around our house, I would go out and speak to them about planting small citrus trees, blueberry bushes, a Loquat tree and a couple of other items. They would use the excuse that they had time constraints, so we agreed that over the years they served our property, they could do these requests the next time they came out. We even called the owner and asked for specific services that were not completed. Once, a wildfire came awfully close to our house, and all the neighbors turned on their sprinklers. We had requested Green Works to service out well pump a couple of weeks before, but the person who was said to be an expert in that task, didn't show up. Should the fire skip over onto our property, I would have only had a garden hose to fight it. The owner never called, but when I called him, he said his pump expert was out sick when he was supposed to show up. The crew Green Works sent out was apparently supposed to make a quota of stops per day, since they would race through our yard and be gone before we could get out to make a request. Time and time again, I would ask one of the guys to plant bushes, I would show them the bush that needed planting, and the spot I wanted it to go. I had to end up planting the blueberry bushes myself. The new yard crew spends over an hour or two on our yard every time they come to our third of an acre yard, and cover all the bases. We were so impressed with the new company, we wanted to give them a hug and a tip. There is no excuse for shoddy business practices, carelessly leaving both my gates open, skipping over requests, and racing through with necessary tasks."

FAQs for landscaping projects in Jay, FL

Landscapers typically charge $25 to $50 per person per hour, which equals around $50 to $100 per hour for a two-person crew. These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.

When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

If you want landscaping done but want to save some money on the overall fees, you can do a few things at every stage. Some ways to save money on your landscaping include:

  • Repurpose existing features and materials

  • Softscape instead of hardscape

  • Choose the more inexpensive materials

  • DIY when you can

  • Buy young plants instead of mature ones

If you are an avid DIYer and have plenty of time to dedicate to your yard, doing your own landscaping (or at least some of it) can be an affordable option. Projects like planting a tree, planting grass, laying sod, or building a firepit can realistically be done without the need for a landscaping professional. However, these projects can take considerable time and some landscaping knowledge, so having a pro might save you in the long run.

Projects that are dangerous, like digging with heavy machinery or removing a tree, should always be done by a professional.

Landscaping costs around $3,500 but varies widely from $200 to $14,000. Factors that play a part in your final landscaping price tag include:

  • Location

  • Yard size

  • Project size

  • Materials

  • Land preparation

  • Type of landscaping

Considering so many factors, it’s not surprising that the overall costs can differ. A typical landscaping project is flower bed installation, which averages between $800 and $3,000. However, landscape lighting installation is a higher-end project, with a price tag of $2,000 to $6,000
