"This is probably the first service company I've used since I moved to Pensacola that did not disappoint in some way. Chase called back within about 5 minutes, was at my home 2 hours later, identified the problem with my reefer in about 15 minutes, located the required fan locally and put everything back together temporarily. Two more hours later (after doing another previously scheduled service call) Chase was back with the correct fan. From the time I first hit HomeAdvisor to the time my reefer was working again took about 6 hours - WOW. Chase did exactly what he said he would do for exactly what he said it would cost (about 15% less than the big-name services I contacted)."

I had ordered the $19 appliance service call coupon and gave my available dates.  No one had contacted me so I called ALC on Friday the 31st as it was the last day I had available.  Bradley apologized for not contacting me and said he would be right over.  I told him about my dryer issues and he showed up as promised, looked at my dryer and knew right away what was wrong.  It had been taking about three full cycles to get my clothes even near dry.  I had been hanging them throughout my house to finish drying.  My dryer is a very good one but I'd bought it used and the warranty had expired before I moved in.  Bradley installed the kit, explained the problem and why I needed to make sure the dryer wasn't too close to the wall.

I'm very pleased with the results and with the service!  It would have cost me at least three times to have bought a new dryer of the same type.  And I cringe when I think of how much by electric bill was costing for three cycles per load!

Appliance Sales questions, answered by experts

In some cases, yes, portable air conditioners are worth buying. They’re a relatively affordable option for cooling small spaces. (On average, they cost between $100 and $500 per unit.) Plus, they’re easy to set up, and you can move them around to cool various parts of your home as needed. However, they aren’t the most efficient AC option, and they tend to be noisy.

The average lifespan of a microwave is typically between 7 and 10 years, though this can vary. Some models may last as few as 5 years, while high-end or boutique brands can function for up to 15 years.

Several factors influence a microwave's longevity, including its make, model, and quality, as well as how frequently it is used and how well it is maintained.

To extend the life of your microwave, follow these maintenance and usage tips:

  • Clean regularly: Immediately wipe up spills and food debris. For stuck-on food, you can heat a bowl of water with a bit of lemon juice for a minute to create steam, which makes cleaning easier.

  • Maintain filters: For over-the-range microwaves, regularly clean the grease filter underneath to ensure it runs efficiently. Clean or replace other filters as needed.

  • Handle with care: Avoid slamming the door, as this can damage the door switches over time.

  • Use it safely: Never run the microwave when it's empty, and do not put metal objects or dishes with metallic trim inside, as this can damage the appliance and create a fire hazard.

  • Inspect the power cord: Periodically check the cord for any signs of damage.

Typically, refrigerators should not be plugged into GFCI outlets. This is another appliance with a motor that can be prone to a little current leakage. Using a standard outlet saves nuisance tripping and the potential of waking up to a refrigerator full of warm food. The only exception is when the refrigerator is in a garage, where all outlets must be GFCI.

Regular cleaning, using appropriate products, and avoiding harsh chemicals help maintain the appearance of refinished appliances.

Dishwashers should be cleaned a minimum of once every 3 months, but really it should be done monthly. This is to prevent germ buildup and will help keep your machine running smoothly. Dishwasher maintenance isn’t too difficult, you’ll simply clean the filter, wipe down the spray arms with vinegar or rubbing alcohol, and run the cycle on empty. If there is any debris, you can remove it with a small metal pick. Do not use wood as the tip can break off inside the machine.
