"Edward Ryan worked with us every step of the way... he helped us get the designs and permits and did a large amount of the work himself. He has a great work ethic and kept everything moving forward. The subcontractors he did use were very professional. They did such a great job that you would have a hard time figuring out where the addition was put on if you didn't know where to look. I fully intend to use him again for home renovations we have planned."

"My husband and I hired Dennis Long to paint our entire condominium on the beach. He was professional, punctual, clean and did a very nice job at a fair price. Dennis completed the job as promised. We 3would definitely use him again as well as recommend him to others."

"We asked 3 contractors for a quote on this job to strip the wallpaper in our double master bathroom and paint it. The wallpaper was put on with some type of glue which we were unable to get off ourselves (we tried - in 4 hours we removed about 2 sq. feet). One contractor refused to bid. Another contractor gave us an hourly rate with no idea how many hours it would take. J&J gave us a firm quote & we went with them. We were amazed that they were able to remove the wallpaper in a little over a day, using just water & elbow grease! They patched the wall that we had damaged when we tried to remove the wallpaper, primed it and painted it the color that we selected. They pointed out that the color we had selected wouldn't match the cabinet doors and recommended we paint them white. We agreed and when they were finished the results were nothing short of spectacular! The bathroom looks fantastic! They were extremely professional, putting down tarp in the hallway so they wouldn't mess us the rug. There is no question, that if we need any more painting, J&J are who we are going to call!"

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can apply peel-and-stick wallpaper over wood paneling, but it requires significant preparation for a good result. Peel-and-stick wallpaper has a weaker adhesive than traditional wallpaper and works best on smooth, non-textured surfaces like painted or primed drywall. Because wood paneling is often textured with grooves, any flaws in the underlying surface will likely be visible after application. To prepare the paneling, you must ensure the surface is free of cracks, holes, and protrusions by filling any indentations and sanding rough spots to create a smooth surface. An alternative is to remove the paneling and apply the wallpaper directly to the underlying drywall or plaster, provided it is in good condition.

No. If you overlap seams, the wallpaper will not come out flat. In addition to possibly throwing off your pattern match between rolls, overlapping seems necessary. If wallpaper is properly acclimated, and temperature and moisture conditions are optimal during installation, there is no reason to fear shrinkage as it dries.

The pros of wallpaper include its durability and longer lifespan than paint, as well as its versatility. The durability can translate to lower long-term costs for upkeep and replacement, and the versatility means you have more options for customizing rooms in your home. Some downsides include that it’s difficult to remove, it’s not ideal for rooms or areas exposed to high moisture content or sun exposure, and it’s tricky to install. A professional wallpaper hanger can help mitigate these issues, though, by installing it properly and in areas suitable for wallpaper.

Accent walls can feel out of place or distracting if not well designed. Accent walls that don’t fit in with a room’s style can feel jarring or overpowering. Some accent wall styles can also feel dated, but fortunately, it’s easier to update a single wall than an entire room.

It’s possible to hang your own wallpaper, but the process is tedious and potentially frustrating, and it can be challenging to get seams to line up and look clean and professional. Plus, depending on the type of wallpaper you’re installing, using too much or too little adhesive could cause damage to your drywall or plaster, peeling, and bubbling in the final product. It’s usually a better idea to hire a professional wallpaper installer to do the work for you, as the relatively low cost is justifiable, if only to avoid damage to your walls.
