He removed the rusted out damper and chimney cap, and replaced them with a stainless steel chimney cap with a built in damper. It works great and it took less time than he estimated. He sealed the chimney, fully secured the chimney cap (which for some reason had been only partially secured when it was installed 34 years ago) and gave the chimney interior a visual inspection.
