Customers say: Quality work

"They did an exceptional job professionally installing drywall and Durock. The job was a rebuild after a water/mold remediation situation. They rebuilt what had been previously removed. Their work included rebuilding portions of 23 walls and 2 ceiling areas, repairing ceiling and wall areas around rebuilt electrical wiring, and miscellaneous damaged areas (holes, etc.). Their work was very professionally completed and ready to paint, with no visible seams remaining, texture restored to match surrounding areas (orange peel on walls, popcorn ceiling). Great job, I would hire again."

"They didn't do any staining as 1) the steps aren't real wood, so need no treatment and 2) the railings are real wood but won't need staining for another year or 2."

"My beach house on Topsail Island had extensive roof damage from hurricane Florence. The island was closed to homeowners for several days while the authorities cleaned up the devastation. When I was finally allowed on the island, I found the kitchen, family, dining room and bath completely covered with mold. I immediately called my insurance agent who told me to contact a mold remediation team. I called Fast & Friendly; they were on site within 90 minutes doing a complete moisture assessment. They immediately deployed industrial size dehumidifiers and air scrubbers to neutralize the mold and maintain a safe living environment. Over the next several days, using state of the art thermal imaging systems and moisture meters, removed the mold effected drywall, insulation and cabinets. They also continually monitored the particulate count in each room to insure my safety and measure their progress in mitigating the mold. When the mold threat was sufficiently reduced, the team when to work cleaning up. They washed all the dishes, towels, fabric chairs, knick-knacks etc. to insure all the lingering mold spores were properly dealt with. When the insurance adjuster arrived, Fast & Friendly was there to meet him and explain the extent of the damage, provide him with documentation and evidence justifying their removal of the moldy surfaces. They will also submit a complete report to the insurance company detailing their activities. Bottom line, this team has the technology, knowledge and skills to help you deal with any mold remediation issues and they turned out to be very nice people."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

Knowing what causes drywall damage can help stop it before it starts. Here are some of the most common causes of drywall damage:

  • Water damage from roof leaks or leaky pipes.

  • Small holes caused by doorknobs, minor accidents, and rodent infestations.

  • Wall dents stemming from moving furniture and minor accidents.

  • Wall cracks that form from a settling foundation or seismic activity.

  • Nail pops from nails and screws in the walls.

  • Large holes that are caused by accidents with heavy objects, children and pets, or sporting equipment.

You can technically just paint over hairline cracks in plaster since these cracks are often harmless, but this will mostly be a waste of paint. Paint will only hide the hairline crack for a few months before it shows up again. The best solution is to repair the crack with flexible filler or joint compound before repainting.

Drywall anchors won’t work on plaster. Instead, they will more than likely cause more damage and pull out the plaster. The best type of anchors to use on plaster walls are the ones that will bite into the surrounding area, such as molly bolts and toggle bolts. Masonry anchors with expanders on the sides also work for lighter pictures.

A jigsaw is commonly used to cut holes in drywall. It offers versatility and precision, making it suitable for creating circular or irregular openings. When equipped with the right blade, a jigsaw can swiftly and cleanly cut through drywall, making it a good choice for DIY projects.
